CONTEXT AND JUSTIFICATION

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM works to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does this by providing services and advice to Governments and migrants.

Under the general supervision of the Head of Mission, under the direct supervision of the Program Officer, and in close coordination with the IOM Côte d’Ivoire program coordination team, the Regional Office and colleagues from the IOM units. program in Côte d’Ivoire, the post holder will be mainly responsible for the development of internal and external communications as well as the implementation of the mission’s external communications strategy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Tasks to be performed under the contract
  • Effectively implement the mission’s external communications strategy, using social media tools to increase awareness of IOM initiatives in Côte d’Ivoire;
  • Supervise the creation and dissemination of communications, reports, action plans and various media resources by aligning them with key messages and contextual concerns in Côte d’Ivoire;
  • Support the IOM Côte d’Ivoire program team in the preparation and design of communication, advocacy and visibility materials, in accordance with IOM guidelines;
  • Proceed to review IOM Côte d’Ivoire’s external documents by facilitating the translation of content, if necessary, in order to ensure accuracy and compliance with the organization’s standards;
  • Work in collaboration with the IOM Regional Office in Dakar and Headquarters to synchronize public information related to the Mission;
  • Gather and update project-related information for online publications by overseeing the management of the Mission’s website and social media platforms;
  • Provide information for press briefings and other materials specifically for the media;
  • Work with local media to ensure their participation in IOM activities and provide information for press releases;
  • Participate in the edition of the monthly newsletter (Newsletter) of the United Nations by writing articles on IOM activities in English and French;
  • Participate in monthly meetings with United Nations communications focal points;
  • Provide advice to field and program staff on issues related to public information, media and communication during activity implementation;
  • Maintain regular and consistent internal and external communication on behalf of the Mission with IOM offices and external stakeholders, as required;
  • Carry out field trips, as appropriate, to obtain documents such as photographs and interviews, presenting the work of the Mission to donors and governments;
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be assigned to him by the Head of Mission.

PROFILE

Education

  • Master’s degree in Journalism, International Relations, Global Communication, International Development, Social Sciences or in a related field, delivered by an accredited university establishment [1] and accompanied by three (03) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned fields with five (05) years of relevant professional experience.

Experiences

  • Experience in leading and managing an organization’s digital communications and social media activities;
  • Experience in international development and humanitarian communications;
  • Experience in donor visibility management;
  • Professional experience in technical writing, editing and reporting in English and French;
  • Good knowledge and understanding of migration issues.

SKILLS

  • Excellent liaison and networking skills with government agencies, donors and INGOs/NGOs;
  • A high level of personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, quest for results and respect for diversity;
  • Ability to manage workload within deadlines and guidelines;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment;
  • Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports and communications in English and French;
  • Knowledge of graphic design and video production is an asset.
