Chief of Party | Bangladesh | 2022 At Chemonics

Chemonics International, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Chief of Party for the five-year USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Horticulture, Fruits, and Non-Food Crops Activity. The project is currently in its third year of implementation and its period of performance is from July 15, 2020-July 14, 2025. The activity supports the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) food security objective by increasing the private sector’s capacity to increase productivity and production of quality horticulture, fruits, and non-food crops that meet international standards. The activity will also strengthen the value chain, linking Bangladeshi smallholder commercial farmers, and other value chain actors towards increasing the efficiency of the market system to meet domestic and international market demands. The result will be a more competent private sector, and efficient market systems that will increase farmers’ income and improve the food security of Bangladesh. This position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply applicable experience and knowledge in private sector engagement, small business enabling environments, and enhancing local economic development through a facilitative and adaptive market systems approach specifically in horticulture
  • Provide high-level strategic vision, overall leadership, and technical management of the project
  • Serve as a key liaison with USAID, Government of Bangladesh, project stakeholders, and counterparts in the public and public sectors
  • Apply in-depth technical expertise in the program, ensuring an integrated vision among various components and focus on achieving results
  • Ensure quality control and overall responsiveness of technical assistance provided under the contract
  • Develop and implement annual work plans and budgets reflecting the needs and priorities of USAID, relevant local government ministries, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure the use of appropriate management tools to plan, organize, and monitor costs and resources to achieve project objectives
  • Oversee operations of the project office in-country in accordance with the policies and procedures established by Chemonics management, including human resources, procurement, finance and administration, and subcontracting

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in relevant field such as rural and agricultural development, business and marketing, international trade, economics, social sciences, and international development
  • 10-15 years of relevant professional experience that showcases increasing managerial responsibility
  • Minimum 8 years of Chief of Party experience leading large and complex technical assistance projects in developing countries
  • Prior work experience in South Asia and/or Bangladesh preferred
  • Experience in market systems, such as adaptive management for improving business processes and enabling small businesses
  • Experience in overseeing and/or leading analysis of market systems and determining strategies and interventions to enhance private sector engagement
  • Some knowledge of guiding principles behind social behavior change
  • Demonstrated ability to work in challenging environments and with multi-cultural teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate and maintain internal and external relationships with stakeholders, partners, and staff
  • Working knowledge of and experience with multi-lateral and bi-lateral regulations and procedures
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
