Chief of Party USAID Advancing Nutrition, Honduras

USAID Advancing Nutrition is the Agency’s flagship nutrition project, led by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and a diverse group of experienced partners. Launched in September 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition implements and provides technical support to nutrition interventions across sectors and disciplines for USAID and its partners. The project’s multi-sectoral approach draws together global nutrition experience to design, implement and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition.

In Honduras, USAID Advancing Nutrition will work to reduce malnutrition among at least 10,000 households per year, with a focus on children under five years of age within the Feed the Future (FTF) Zone of Influence (ZOI). The Activity will also operate at the national level to help the Government of Honduras mobilize and coordinate resources and commitments to reduce malnutrition. The project’s objective is to reduce underweight and improve the quality of diets – with a focus on children under 5 – through a range of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive agriculture interventions.

The Chief of Party (COP) will lead all aspects of the USAID Advancing Nutrition program in Honduras. They are the highest-level project representative in Honduras and will provide strategic technical and managerial oversight to the program. They are responsible for coordination with the Government of Honduras, advocacy, representing USAID externally, and coordination with other donors and actors. The ideal candidate will have experience leading USAID funded projects and experience implementing programing that results in measureable improvements for nutrition. The COP will report to the US-based Director of Country Programs and oversee a local staff of 20 – 25. This position is based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, requiring regular travel within Honduras. This position is open until filled and qualified applicants will be interviewed on a rolling basis.

The Chief of Party will be an experienced manager who:

Primary liaison with USAID and the Government of Honduras; ensure successful client relationship and foster strategic opportunities for innovative nutrition action.
Primary liaison with USAID/Honduras on all technical and administrative matters, and must adjust programs and operations as needed. The COP must coordinate and ultimately be responsible for all award management and implementation tasks.
Responsible for ensuring quality control and the overall responsiveness of technical assistance provided under the award.
Responsible for all aspects of program leadership and implementation, including; development, management of annual work plans, annual reporting and compliance requirements, overall budget management, and quality and timeliness of technical deliverables.
Leads project start-up with support from the U.S. Office, including work plan development and budgeting, hiring senior staff, office procurement and other logistical efforts.
Oversees at least 3 direct reports, including Deputy Chief of Party, Nutrition Alliance Builder and SBC Technical Advisor and Director, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
Leads a team of highly qualified nutrition experts, ensuring positive work environment and effective teamwork resulting a high standard of quality in all implementation and deliverables.
Ensure that all project activities are implemented in compliance with the USAID Advancing Nutrition contract, mission expectations, JSI policies, and Honduran law.
Manage financial resources to ensure compliant and effective distribution of project funds.
Travel domestically to project sites (minimum 25%), and internationally as needed.
Perform other duties as needed.
