Climate Change and Environment Technical Coordinator At Action against Hunger Spain

The coordination of climate change and the environment has as its general objective:

The development of the climate change and environment strategy of the Colombia mission with the purpose of expanding interventions in this sector in the country and (its interrelation with the other technical sectors of expertise: WASH, SANMV, Gender, health and nutrition) and maximize its impact on the implementation of actions in our interventions.

The main activities you will perform are the following:

STRATEGY:

  • Develops the strategy and defines the action plan in the climate change and environment sector adapted to the Colombia mission, based on the guidelines of the environment and climate change policy of Action Against Hunger and contributing to its operationalization.
  • Leads the design of programs such as: climate change and environment, biodiversity conservation, for the Colombia mission and its complementarity with other programs, sectors and strategic lines of the Country Strategy.
  • Ensures in-depth knowledge about the country context, in the climate change and environment sector, reforms, updates, public debates, coverage, surveillance systems among other innovations, which allows us to have a clear vision and the added value of our contribution as an organization. to the sector.
  • It seeks an active and strategic relationship with community actors in climate change and the environment, as well as with relevant institutional actors in the territories, and at the national level.
  • Leads the analyzes of climate change and the environment in the territories of action of Action Against Hunger in close collaboration with the regional coordinators to produce strategic information, and/or make visible alerts, needs in (coverage, access) among others that promote advocacy and incidence actions for the sector.
  • It contributes to the multisectoral analysis of climate change and the environment with a gender focus, other transversal approaches (conflict-sensitive approach or others) and the traditional sectors of our work (WASH, SAMV, Health and Nutrition).
  • Performs donnor intelligence for the sector, maps current programs and projects, types of financing, donors specialized in climate change and climate and guarantees the relationship with program managers to promote new alliances (BHA, international or local NGOs, and other donors in the sector) understanding better the development of interventions in your sector, as well as the analysis of competitors or allies.

POSITIONING:

  • Identifies, establishes and leads a strategic and tactical work agenda to position Action Against Hunger with other actors (United Nations, NGOs, institutions and donors).
  • Actively participates in technical meetings and forums at the central and/or local and regional levels on climate change and environmental issues and guarantees the positioning and strategic vision of the sector for the mission of Colombia.
  • Establishes work alliances for the sector, identifies new strategic stakeholders and possible association relationships (consortium work and strategic alliances).

KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT:

  • Actively participates in the Grants unit for the design of sector proposals and their complementarity with other technical sectors (validates technical information and ensures the strategic vision and incorporation of the programs in their sector).
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments to evaluate and mitigate the effects of humanitarian projects on ecosystems and natural resources.
  • Management and internal training of the teams of the tool designated for the preparation of environmental diagnoses (NEAT+ or similar).
  • Lead the writing of scientific articles that present positive experiences for publications in specialized magazines or other media.
  • Reads and analyzes the data collected in the field by field professionals or other sectors, about our actions or lessons learned, ensuring the transformation of data, and the crossing of relevant variables, for the production of information and knowledge of your sector. that allows technical incidence and positioning from the area that leads.
  • Monitors together with technical coordinators/specialists from the other work areas in the mission, to ensure that the activities carried out and indicators of the actions in the sector are aligned and harmonized with internal processes and the Action Against Hunger strategy (framework technical, global impact indicators), reporting said information to the high-level instances required.
  • Actively participate in ALEXANDRIA discussions and spaces.
  • Leads the execution of studies, quick and/or in-depth surveys, and/or innovation proposals in your sector.
  • Leads awareness-raising actions to increase awareness of environmental issues and encourage sustainable practices, training and mentoring project staff, community members and local partners.
  • Collaborate with the logistics department in the implementation of the measures of the carbon footprint reduction plan in the mission. As well as in the collection of data to calculate the footprint.

SECURITY MANAGEMENT AND PROMOTION OF SECURITY CULTURE.

  • Follow the security rules specified in the mission security plan
  • Ensures compliance with the plan by the team in charge and performs security management tasks that may be assigned in their protocols.
  • Communicate to security managers and/or country management any relevant information related to security or non-compliance with the security plan.

Does this description fit you?

Training:

  • Degree in biology, natural sciences, and related areas with a specialization or Master’s degree in environmental sciences, natural resource management, ecology, biodiversity conservation, climate change or a related field.

Technical knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of the problems and solutions associated with climate change and sustainability.
  • Excellent project management skills, including experience in planning, budgeting and risk management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments.

Previous experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian projects (desirably with a focus on climate change and environment).
  • Interinstitutional coordination activities.
  • Interdisciplinary work and team leadership.
  • Relationship with central government institutions and political advocacy.
  • Management of development cooperation projects (project cycle).
  • Human resources management:

Knowledge of the humanitarian sector:

  • Understanding of the rights approach particularly in relation to the dynamics of climate change and the environment.
  • Knowledge and respect for Humanitarian Principles.

Action Against Hunger Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the organization, its lines of action, and the importance of inter-sector integration.

Languages:

  • High-intermediate level of spoken and written English (if necessary, proactivity in learning English, an element that will be evaluated within the framework of performance evaluations).

Office automation and specific systems:

  • Mastery of the Office package.
  • Knowledge in the use of basic computer tools

Mobility:

  • Availability for high mobility in the country with trips to intervention areas or other areas of the country or region.
