The Climate Resilience Volunteer Assistants are responsible for supporting climate change initiatives focused on awareness, adaptation, and mitigation for community resilience in the implementing districts. We are looking for 3 Volunteer Assistants for Arua, Kampala and Jinja to support community-level climate resilience planning, regenerative agricultural practices, rainwater harvesting, and community micro-forests.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in processes for developing workplans under the supervision of the Climate Resilience Coordinator.
- Support field-based activities for identifying Green Champions including women and youth.
- Work with district level climate change extension workers to identifying existing farmer groups, community-based organizations, and other key stakeholders to participate in climate resilience initiatives.
- Liaise with community extension workers to identify nursery beds for supplying various tree species needed for planning micro forests in the targeted districts.
- Participate in periodic district level and community-based climate resilience planning and review meetings.
- On a day-to-day basis, laisse with extension workers and green champions to plant more trees, undertake gap fillings and identify sources of compost to be used at the various micro forests.
- Participate in the training of community members to establish rainwater harvesting and micro-irrigation techniques.
- Participate in the training and support of targeted smallholder farmers, supporting them to use mobile-based agriculture applications to access extension, advisory services and market-related information.
- Support processes for dissemination of training materials for promoting community awareness.
- Prepare, present, and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports to immediate supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- Diploma in community development, agriculture, natural Resource management, sustainable development, or related courses.
- Must be based/resident of the implementing district(s)
- Passionate about supporting climate change resilience for sustainable development.
- Previous experience of working on similar climate resilience initiatives will be added advantage.
- Familiarity of Ms word, Ms Excel, PowerPoint among others
- Good command of English, both oral and written
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment is required.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ability ride motorcycle including possession of ridding permit.
- Familiarity of local languages for the targeted district (especially spoken)
