Overview

Doctors of the World UK is part of the global Médecins du Monde network, which delivers over 300 projects in more than 70 countries through 3,000 volunteers. In the UK, we provide acute medical care and advocacy from a drop-in clinic in east London, supporting some of society’s most marginalised people to access mainstream health services. We believe that every person has the right to healthcare and will advocate tirelessly on behalf of those facing barriers.

By working with us, you will directly support people to access healthcare by helping them to overcome bureaucratic obstacles and providing the much-needed practical support.

You will have the opportunity to gain and develop further transferrable skills through the variety of engaging work you will be involved in and training sessions.

Role Purpose

Clinic Support Workers are the main point of contact for service users in our walk-in clinic in Stratford, East London. They carry out interviews with service users to determine their needs and to provide appropriate advice and support. They act as advocates and liaise with NHS service providers to link the service users to the care they need.

Our clinic currently runs on Tuesday (Women & Children), Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-5pm and we aim to re-open a full-time service soon.

Commitment required: minimum of two clinic shifts a month for six months.

Key Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Act as first point of contact for service users in the clinic or health promotion setting
  • Listen to service users’ needs and identify other support services
  • Complete data collection forms with service users
  • Help service users with registration and administration needs and advocating on their behalf to NHS services
  • Liaise with all internal staff and volunteers, Service users, NHS services and other healthcare providers.
