The Organization

Plan International is a global federation and it has been working in Jordan since 2016, collaborating with national and international partners to support the recovery and resilience of the Syrian refugees and Jordanian host population by providing Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), integrated projects including; education, child protection, GBV, SRHR, Youth Economic Empowerment, and women’s empowerment services in both host communities and refugee camps.

About the Communication and Media Team

The Communication and media team is one of the support units under the leadership of the Country Director. The Communications team is responsible of Plan International image, and responsible of creating a positive relationship between Plan International and its beneficiaries, partners, donors and the general public. Communications can be delivered using various methodologies and tools such as face to face, traditional mass media (radio, television and print) and online media channels and campaigns. Communication does not only focus around an event, but a continuous process that aids in fostering good working relationships with partners, a larger advocacy platform and brand building for Plan International.

The Opportunity

The Communication and Media Assistant role is a unique opportunity for candidates to learn how to work effectively as a member of a diverse team, to better understand the inner workings of Plan International, and to grow their communications abilities as well as their organizational skills and interpersonal competencies.

The role would suit an ambitious creative person with some experience of working in a busy environment. This position will support the Communication and Media Coordinator and work closely to develop and maintain effective collaboration system with Projects Coordinators and Officers, Technical Units, Program Unit Managers, frontline staff.

The candidate must be a key member of the Communications, Media, Campaigns team and play an active role in promoting positive images of young people with focus on girls and supporting them to get their voices heard. As well as contribute in implementing the Influence, Communication and Media Strategies to achieve their goals as part of Plan International Country Strategy.

The Communication and Media Assistant will guide and support Plan International implementing partners to design and develop communication and media contents that are compatible with the overall Plan International communication strategies and policies. The unit provides capacity building, guidance and follow-up for partners, including Community Based Organization (CBOs), in the development and implementation of communication tools and procedures that provide progress evidence-based information to reflect the projects’ performance and results. Farther, to ensure quality communications for Plan international’s individual projects and programmes in line with donor standards and requirements.

Accountabilities

  • Assist in the implementation of Plan International Communications Strategy and Work Plans.
  • Build toolkits with the support of the supervisor and distribute comprehensive social media toolkits to partners and others in support of major events, campaigns, and other initiatives of Plan International.
  • Collaborate in planning, monitoring and reporting of communication activities.
  • Support the development and dissemination of communication print and visual materials.
  • Support in creating and design promotional and visibility items.
  • Regular field visits to collect evidence materials (photos, videos, stories, statements).
  • Draft press releases, statements and success stories in both Arabic and English.
  • Maintain library/ database of reference materials and photos.
  • Support in managing Plan International digital platforms and insure their activeness.
  • Design and create high quality and highly engaging social media content.
  • Handle media monitoring process and develop regular media reports.
  • Provide support to Plan International public campaigns and events.
  • Cover Plan International events live on social media using multimedia (e.g. live tweeting, producing social media graphics from templates, producing live video clips, produce Facebook Live broadcasts etc.).
  • Work with the supervisor and colleagues to set and meet reasonable audience engagement targets.
  • Support on the public and community mobilization activities.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support at Plan International events.
  • Provide other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Apply knowledge of Plan Programs and approach to identify improvements.
  • Understanding of Plan International’s policies and regulations.
  • Ensure safe environment for children and young people.
  • Identify risks or issues that may affect the communication production.
  • Ability to think strategically, recognize program and persuade colleagues of communication and media opportunities that Plan should exploit.
  • High degree of capacity to resolve a wide range of challenges related to communication and media initiatives.
  • Providing leadership and advice on communication and media activities.

Child safeguarding, gender equality and inclusion

  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

  • A University degree in relevant fields and subjects additional to the knowledge in graphic design.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of Communication, Branding, Media, Campaigns experience preferably with an international organization.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating training/workshops.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Arabic language skills required.
  • Strong interviewing skills and ability to process the conversation during any interview.
  • Demonstrated writing skills (report writing, articles, stories, and press releases)
  • Experience in video and film making.
  • Experience working with children and understanding their special needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and team work abilities.
  • This position requires high computer literacy with a full knowledge of office applications and experience working with Adobe Creative software.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the promotion of gender equality, child protection and inclusion of the most vulnerable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines and targets.
  • Involves others in setting and achieving goals.
