Context
The UNFPA Malaysia Country Office (CO) is recruiting a UNV to support the Communications work with content creation – specifically focused conceptualizing, creating and executing digitally optimized content for the CO’s social media channels. With close guidance from the Consultant, the UNV will support in communicating efforts directed towards advancing UNFPA’s mandate of ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. The role also serves as an opportunity for graduates to harness skills in a field that is rapidly evolving.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Representative, in close collaboration with the Communications Consultant, the UNV will undertake the following tasks:
• Content creation o In line with UNFPA mandates and in accordance with local sensitivities, develop engaging and relevant digital content for various social media platforms – primarily Reels optimized for Instagram and others.
o Suggest and/or conceptualize and create content in support of programmatic activities whether planned or ad-hoc.
o Highlight opportunities to integrate social media element with other offline and online initiatives to ensure our work is well communicated to a di-verse range of audience.
o Provide support in creating content for the CO’s website – in the form of articles, both long and short form.
• Graphic Design o Pursuant with the aforementioned tasks, this role requires an individual with an existing eye and skills to be able to create visually appealing graphics, images and other multimedia content for digital platforms.
o Familiarity with platforms such as Canva, Mailchimp and other designing platforms.
• Information Management
o To support future communication activities, ensure all photos and content received from the wider team, self-shot or from photography vendors are backed up onto the organization’s drive along with complete information.
• Learning and Development o Stay up to date with emerging digital communications tools and technologies
o Actively highlight innovating content approaches by others and how we may emulate.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
As volunteering with UNV requires full-time commitment, volunteers are entitled to certain benefits for this role as below:
