Yoga and Sport With Refugees (YSR) was born in October 2017 on the island of Lesvos, Greece, in response to the massive need for healthy safe spaces, the sense of community and a place to work on mental and physical health. In September 2020, we expanded to Athens. Through cooperation with Habibi.Works and KOIZ Centre for Postcolonial Studies, we started Habibi and Sport with Refugees in Ioannina in 2021 and last summer we started our project in Paris. Every day we offer more than 10 different sports activities to approximately 200 people. Our model is unique with over 70 of our past and current coaches coming from a refugee background.

We are looking for a new Communications and Advocacy Manager who can commit to at least 6 months, preferably longer, based in Athens or Lesvos.

Compensation:

The salary is €1150 gross, in accordance with Greek legislation.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating the external communication strategy, in line with the organizational goals.
  • Social media management, create, plan and overview the posting of all YSR accounts. (LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook)
  • Plan and execute global campaigns.
  • Handle press inquiries in line with the YSR safeguarding policies and ensure that journalists visits are well coordinated. Accompanying the process until publishing.
  • Create the monthly newsletter and overview the monthly reporting process.
  • Website Maintenance (Front and back-end)
  • Manage and build partnerships and go to conferences to represent YSR and increase public awareness.
  • Join local advocacy groups, sign relevant statements and join relevant campaigns.
  • Manage the various communications projects and supervise the communications staff.

e are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications and Advocacy Manager who believes in the power of sport to change the world. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in communications and advocacy, with a strong ability to engage diverse audiences. Prior experience working with displaced communities is essential, as it brings an understanding of the unique challenges and sensitivities involved in this work.

We are looking for someone who is creativehighly organized, and a team player, able to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies that align with our mission. A sporty and outgoing personality is ideal, as you’ll actively engage with the Yoga and Sports Refugees (YSR) community and our ambassadors, helping to foster a vibrant, supportive environment for displaced people in Europe.

Key qualities include:

Strategic vision: You can see the big picture, translating organizational goals into effective communications and advocacy campaigns. You are a great communicator in written and spoken form.

Digital Savvy: You are adept with various social media platforms and understand how to create engaging content for platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook. You are skilled in a design tool like Canva, have a visual eye for photography/videography and ideally know how to use Adobe Cloud or similar programs to create engaging content.

Exceptional communication skills: You can connect with diverse audiences, from the media to stakeholders to community members.

Organizational skills: Managing multiple platforms, partnerships, and campaigns, you are detail-oriented and able to maintain consistency in messaging. (maybe I would change to highly organized)

Experience in working with displaced people: You are familiar with the challenges faced by displaced individuals and can advocate with empathy and sensitivity.
