Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Programmes and the direct supervision of the Head of Prorgramme Support Unit, the successful candidate will undertake communications work for the Mission, including engagement on social media and websites, and development and production of various communication and visibility materials. He or she will provide backup support on information and data management in the event of emergency response.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Draft, and edit media/communication high quality contents and public information materials for the Mission, in coordination with programme staff, Online Communications Unit (OCU) of Manila Global Administrative Center (MAC), and external experts and stakeholders. These include Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials, such as brochures, infosheets, newsletters, situation reports, maps and infographics, and video clips.
  • Manage Mission’s official website and social media account (Facebook, Twitter) including the drafting, edition and uploading of the contents as well as responding to feedback to the page.
  • Support implementation of Mission’s project activities related to communications, including organizing of communications campaigns and relevant online and offline events, creating key messaging materials, among others.
  • Support project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting work of the Mission through development of infographics, visualization of relevant data, and formatting/layout/design of the reports and related materials.
  • Assist responding to spontaneous requests related to media and communications, from donors, IOM Regional Offices and HQ.
  • Assist updating and adapting, as necessary, the existing media and communications tools, in coordination with the Unit and project team.
  • Participate and assist in communications meetings with external entities (such as UN country team working groups, and other humanitarian/development partners), and share relevant information and knowledge to the Mission colleagues.
  • Provide backup support to and coordinate with key partners on Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), IOM Biometrics’ Registration and Verification (BRaVe) System, as well as related training, production of DTM reports and visibility materials, and other requests on information management and beneficiary’s registration systems relevant to disaster preparedness and response, as necessary.
  • Undertake duty travels as necessary to support documentation of field activities in coordination with the programme and project teams.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University degree Development Communications, Social Science, Social Work or a related field from an accredited academic institution with minimum three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with five years of relevant professional experience

Experience

  • Experience in humanitarian work and capacity-building activities with Government, NGOs and INGOs.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities as well as with national and international institutions.

Skills

  • Familiarity with the information management systems and their role in Disaster Preparedness and Response is an advantage.
  • High computer literacy in Windows and MS Office is mandatory, knowledge of web page design, graphic software such as Adobe photoshop and illustrator, multimedia design and processing and publishing software, proficiency in social media is an advantage.
  • Good verbal, written, interpersonal skills and creativity.
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
