Communications Assistant At GOAL

Established in 1977, GOAL is an international humanitarian agency, with a team of 3,100 personnel, dedicated to alleviating the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Currently operating in 14 of the world’s most vulnerable countries, GOAL delivers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes, ranging from humanitarian relief in disaster situations, to focusing on nutrition, food security, and building greater resilience and sustainable livelihoods.

The successful candidate will join GOAL’s Communications Team which is part of the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Department. This role will suit an enthusiastic candidate who has up to two years’ experience working in a junior communications role in an agency or in-house environment.

Ideally the candidate will understand the development and implementation of traditional and innovative communications campaigns and will have significant experience in project management, with oversight. Due to the nature of the environment, the role requires an ability to work well under pressure, manage time effectively and show a hunger for learning and career progression.

The successful candidate will also be able to combine a passion for communications and organisational skills with the ability to develop and maintain multiple strong internal and external relationships. The ideal candidate will be creative and confident working in a collaborative environment where ideas are welcomed and explored.

The new Communications Assistant will be involved in a wide and varied array of projects that will include writing, editing, revising and inputting into communications plans and delivering components of those plans. Other tasks will include, but will not be limited to, the management of rich media assets (imagery and video material), website and social media analysis. and content creation.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Communications Manager and other members of the team to ensure the smooth operation of the Communications function, as an integral part of the Fundraising, Marketing and Comms Department
  • Assist with the development and distribution of high-quality communications material to promote GOAL internally and externally, across multiple channels
  • Contribute ideas on the implementation of a range of communications and marketing strategies to enhance engagement with target audiences
  • Develop and maintain up to date, informative and appealing content for GOAL’s website, email marketing and social media channels
  • Assist with the compilation, preparation and revision of a wide range of communications materials such as the Annual Reports, newsletters, social media posts, brochures, press releases etc.
  • Assist with the preparation of promotional materials to drive awareness of upcoming events and campaigns
  • Assist with the preparation of media coverage, website and social media evaluation reports

Person Specification

Required

  • A degree, diploma or equivalent in Communications, PR or Marketing or equivalent work experience in an agency or in-house environment, with a proven track record of achievement.
  • Experience developing, monitoring and evaluating communications and marketing campaigns
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong time, project, and prioritisation management skills
  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Agility in moving successfully between traditional media and social media
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills
  • Impressive accuracy and eye for detail
  • Methodical, flexible, and capable of undertaking multitask driven work
  • Fluent business level English speaker

  • Experience in managing expectations from multiple key stakeholders
