MAGENTA is a leading Social and a Behavioural Change (SBC) Research and Communications agency that specializes in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design communications solutions for positive change in fragile and development settings. Headquartered in Amman, Jordan and implementing programmes across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, we use the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation. Our client base includes UN agencies, INGOs, governments and private sector.

BACKGROUND

MAGENTA is looking for a communications consultant based in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) to support an upcoming programme funded by the International Labour Organisation, focusing on the transition from the informal economy to the formal economy. The programme aims to:

  • Increase access to decent work and reduce poverty;
  • Foster sustainable and productive businesses that compete in fair national and international markets;
  • Increase the scope of government action, guarantee the rule of law and establish more equitable and cohesive societies.

MAGENTA is bidding to support ILO in promoting/publicising this strategy in North Africa and the Middle East. The target audience will include:

  • The ultimate beneficiaries of the project, namely workers and entrepreneurs in the informal economy, with a focus on young people and women
  • National and local government
  • Business representation bodies
  • Multilateral agencies and others that have a direct or indirect interest in employment and economic development issues in the Middle East and North Africa

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be a key part of the team responsible for the design and potentially the implementation of the project.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Providing insight into the communications, business, and government landscape in OPT.
  • Assisting with developing a communications strategy with a focus on traditional and digital media in OPT.
  • Potentially acting as MAGENTA’s local focal point throughout the implementation of the strategy.
  • Managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders across OPT.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Substantial experience working in development communications in OPT including:
  • Strategy development
  • Communications products development, including work with creative agencies
  • Work with media
  • Working with government and other senior stakeholders
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic (speaking, reading and writing)
  • Project management experience, including budget management experience
  • Experience working in strategic communications including social behavioural change and/or communications for development
  • Experience working on financial/business/economic issues preferable
  • Experience working with local/national OPT government preferable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm for the programme and proactive approach
