Overview
The Rights and Dignity Project is implemented by Counterpart International in partnership with Partners El Salvador (PES). The main goal of the Project is to help strengthen governmental and non-governmental human rights protection systems, resulting in an increasingly tolerant, just, and equitable El Salvador.
Counterpart International is currently seeking a Communications Officer (CO) to carry out activities related to the Communications Area. Additionally, this position is expected to work closely with and report to the Communications Specialist. The CO will provide technical assistance to support the Project’s communications team in the implementation of communications strategies, content writing, production of audiovisual materials, and the organization and development of events and activities at the National and local level. Also, the CO will work closely with the Project’s graphic and audiovisual designer. This is a full-time position based in San Salvador, El Salvador. This is a locally based position; Salvadoran citizens are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Communications Specialist, the incumbent is expected to contribute to:
- Supporting the review and implementation of the communication strategy for the visibility of the Project at the local and international level, as well as for each of its stakeholders.
- Supervising the constant production of graphic and audiovisual materials, in collaboration with the graphic designer, for example: success stories, photographs, infographics, video clips, etc.
- Supporting the implementation and logistical/administrative process of virtual and/or face-to-face activities and/or events in collaboration with other areas of the Project (Human Rights Team, Dialogue Team, Organizational Development Team, etc.) or in collaboration with other Project partners.
- Supporting the strengthening of relationships with different Project audiences, both national and international, to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the Project’s work.
- Supporting the Communications Team’s implementation and monitoring of the Project’s Advocacy Fund, coordinating with other Project technical and administrative teams to ensure implementation following Counterpart’s internal processes and policies.
- Participate in Project design and planning sessions to support an integrated Communications Team response to Project needs.
- Support the Communication Specialist in keeping Project leadership updated on relevant trends and news about human rights and other topics, institutions, or NGO leaders.
- Other tasks assigned by the Communications Specialist.
Qualifications
Required:
- At least 3 years of professional work experience in communications areas working with USAID Projects.
- Knowledge of human rights topics and experience working with civil society organizations, public institutions, NGOs, and donors.
- Reliability and confidentiality around sensitive information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Media or another relevant field.
- Legally authorized to work in El Salvador.
- Experience in digital communication, strategic communication, public speaking, social networks.
- Experience in maximizing the use of internal communication tools to promote and implement events.
- Expertise in designing and implementing communication and outreach strategies.
- Demonstrated creative ability to develop concepts and visual products related to human rights issues.
- Demonstrated experience in the development, production and editing of videos, infographics, news reports, interviews, and other similar communication products (desirable).
- Ability and skills to produce reports, press releases, etc.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Media or another relevant field.
- Experience with gender integration and social inclusion a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English.
