Summary
Save the Children is currently accepting applications for a Communications Specialist for a Department of Labor-funded project with the objective of increasing collective action in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to address child labor, forced labor, and other unacceptable conditions of work. The project will focus on people of African descent, Garifuna, and indigenous communities, and will work with CSOs to address labor exploitation, including issues of gender and racial discrimination, and workers’ organizations that represent the collective interests of formal and/or informal workers, including these target populations. The project will work directly with national and local authorities, the private sector, people of African descent, Garifuna, and indigenous communities, and other critical stakeholders. The project will also help workers’ organizations and CSOs to address child labor and other violations of acceptable conditions of work by strengthening their capacities to advance gender and racial equity.
The Communications Specialist will provide leadership for the integrated communications strategy that provides targeted communication to different stakeholders (including families and children) who are addressing child labor, forced labor and other unacceptable conditions of work. Under the direct line management of the Project Director, The Specialist will oversee the project’s communications strategy implementation and collaborate with Country Coordinators and the communications team to develop and disseminate child protection and child labor law information via multiple communication channels. The Specialist will also support the monitoring of results from communication activities, and all project-related external communications. The position reports directly to the Project Director.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Ensure that all deliverables required by DOL/ILAB, SCUS, and other stakeholders are produced and delivered on time and are of a consistently high quality;
Develop and implement a communications strategies through a variety of means, such as traditional, digital, and social media, and/or storytelling;
Responsible for developing child-friendly communication materials;
Design and roll-out communications strategies using behavioral and social change methodologies, including audience segmentation and social mobilization; and
Incorporate SC’s vision and values and full adherence to Code of Conduct principles.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required plus a minimum of three years of professional experience in communications work relevant to this project (degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field is preferred);
Proven experience developing and implementing communications strategies through a variety of means, such as traditional; digital; radio; social media; and/or storytelling;
Ability to develop communications strategies using behavioral and social change communication, including audience segmentation and social mobilization;
Demonstrated experience managing a team and overseeing the work of consultants and external companies and managing the delivery of multi-media communication products and services is recommended;
Experience in and knowledge of issues related to child labor, forced labor, and/or other violations of acceptable conditions of work is recommended; and
Fluency in Spanish is required and proficiency in English is preferred
