Call for Applications: Communications Specialist with EWMI JSSA

The East-West Management Institute, Inc. (EWMI) invites applications for the Communications Specialist position with its Judicial System Strengthening Activity (JSSA) in Uzbekistan, a four-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented until September 2025. JSSA is divided into three components: Component 1 will strengthen the administration of justice by improving court and case management; Component 2 will strengthen the professionalism of the judiciary through enhanced training initiatives, and Component 3 will strengthen public trust in the judiciary. The following is a full-time, long-term (until September 2025) position based in Tashkent, beginning immediately. The position is open only to persons eligible to work in Uzbekistan.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting the Public Education Expert, the Training/Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Coordinator, and the Deputy Chief of Party in communications and public outreach-related activities. This full-time position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assists the Public Education Expert in designing, preparing, and publishing communications and other public outreach materials per the USAID requirements and EWMI communications policies;
  • Support the Public Education Expert in carrying out activities under Component 3, including trainings and workshops, meetings with counterparts, high-level events, and publicity related to these activities;
  • Design, refine, and publish graphics for the project, including infographics, data visualizations, and communications products;
  • Manage the project’s social media presence, including managing inputs from other JSSA staff, in addition to drafting, publishing, and monitoring content;
  • Support Home Office communications regarding the project;
  • Work with the Training/MEL Coordinator on data collection and visualization from all project components; Supports the work of the Chief of Party on communications-related tasks;
  • Other related duties as requested.

Required qualifications:

  • At least 4 years of experience in the communications sphere, including supporting capacity-building efforts with judicial institutions, governmental agencies, international organizations, and donors;
  • At least 4 years of experience working in communications, journalism, or public relations, including managing social media networks, publishing articles and press releases in several languages;
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in graphic design, including designing infographics, data visualization tools, and using graphic design software (CorelDRAW, Adobe Photoshop etc.) and tools;
  • Strong organization and planning skills, proven experience supporting high-level events;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Positive attitude, attention to detail, flexibility to manage fast timelines and multiple work streams;
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, graphic design, communications, journalism, law, statistics, international development, or a related field, and
  • Fluency in Uzbek, Russian, and English required.
