Communications Specialist (National Position) at INTERSOS

Job position – Communications Specialist Work location – Roving

Reporting to – (Hierarchical): Head of Base (Functional) Content Manager HQ

Supervision of – Communications Officer (project)

General purpose of the position

The Communications Specialist will lead the overall communications strategies and deliverables for the Nigeria Mission, including the production of quality multimedia materials and the strengthening of external communications. He/she will be directly reporting to the Head of Base (HoB), and functionally coordinating all activities with the Mission.

Tasks and Main Responsibilities

External Communications

· Ensures production and dissemination of quality communication, reporting and visibility of INTERSOS activities to the targeted audience

· Supports Project/ Programme Managers in documenting project activities and related humanitarian issues by producing multimedia materials for INTERSOS external communications.

· Supports and following up (as requested by Program/PMs) on the collection of multimedia materials requested by Donors for their internal and external communications.

· Direct involvement in collecting beneficiaries’ stories, aggregating data, pitching news, taking pictures, filming and editing videos thorough the mission, with frequent field visits, to be planned accordingly with security and mission’s priorities.

· Leads operational communications by providing tools and directly engaging in the production of specific materials.

· Leads the production of institutional communications and visibility materials at mission level.

· Manages when requested, and upon final decision of the HoM, the relations with international and national journalists who approach INTERSOS;

· Establishes and manages the INTERSOS Mission Facebook page, including developing and publishing posts in adherence with INTERSOS communication guidelines and ensuring its appropriate functioning as a tool for accountability and communication with communities.

· Facilitates the organization of Media Field Visits coordinated with the HQ;

· Supports the Mission in developing of the Communications strategies with the public and key stakeholders, as well as conducting perception analysis

Internal Communications

· Monitors the local press highlighting any content that may be relevant for the humanitarian response in the country and for INTERSOS’ programmes;

· Analyzes and reports traffic on the INTERSOS Facebook page

· Ensures in coordination with Project/ Programme Managers and under the supervision of the Comms Focal Point the respect of visibility guidelines and donors’ compliance.

· Ensures under the supervision of the Comms Focal Point, the compliance of all multimedia materials to INTERSOS’ protection, communications, and privacy policies and guidelines, as well as donors’ guidelines.

· Production of monthly bulletin for INTERSOS Nigerian Mission in coordination with Program team

· Develops advocacy messages in close coordination with program team, head of offices and HoB

Position Requirements

Professional requirements

· University Degree major in Communications, Journalism or related disciplines

· Video/Photo shooting, editing and excellent Writing skills

· Excellent communication and advocacy skills in relation to beneficiaries and stakeholders

· Proficient application of social media (FaceBook, Instagram, Youtube, etc), WordPress and the Office Suite Programs

· Previous journalistic experience (preferential)

· Previous experience with INGOs in communications sector (preferential)

· Previous experience in social media content management (or similar)

· Previous experience in Program Development, donor reporting and digital designing

Personal requirements*

· Strong motivation and adherence to the humanitarian principles and the mission of INTERSOS

· Availability to travel on national territory outside work location as and when necessary

· Flexibility in working hours, weekend / holidays when required by the situation/ context

· Leadership skills, strong attitude for teamwork and collaboration within a complex organization.

· Ability to adapt to unexpected events as guided by the management
