Overview of position
Under the overall supervision of the Reconstruction Manager and the direct supervision of the Field Engineer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will provide hands on work assistance to the Community Cash for Work Groups (CWGs) to ensure efficient completion of the TWRP new house construction projects in accordance with the approved plans, methodology and timeline
Role objectives
- Provide hands-on assistance on the layout of the house building dimensions, grid lines, and elevation and ensure building correct dimensions and squareness.
- Provide hands-on assistance in the most efficient way, on the setting up of footing reinforcement, post strap settings, and forms installation. Ensure proper alignment and correct dimensions as per plan, check embedded materials are complete and proper before concreting.
- Provide hands-on assistance on the floor deck constructions and Simpson strong ties installation and ensure proper floor dimensions and elevations are followed as per plan.
- Provide hands-on assistance on the wall panel installation and ensure squareness and plumpness. Ensure installation of Simpson ties and fastener requirements are complete and proper.
- Provide hands-on assistance on the installation of truss framing and ensure the installation of Simpson ties and fastener requirements including bracing requirements, are complete and proper.
- Provide hands-on assistance on the proper installation of tin roof and peripherals and ensure embedded materials are complete and proper.
- Provide hands-on assistance on the installation of doors and windows to ensure smooth operation of functions and hardware are complete and proper.
- Ensure that proper materials are used correctly according to plans and specifications and desired use.
- Follows the general policy of Health and Safety, Quality Control, and Environmental plan of the project.
- Strictly adhere to our client’s policies and procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.
- Undertake work-related travel at the request and approval of the COM.
- Other duties as assigned and needed to support the program objectives.

Key competencies
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree with three years of professional work experience; and/or Completed secondary education with five years of relevant work experience
- Graduate of technical course or skills training certification is an advantage
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two years of carpentry experience preferably in building construction
- Experience in using and maintaining tools and equipment associated with carpentry work
- Experience in interpreting construction plans and blueprints and building wooden structures
SKILLS
- Knowledge of basic carpentry tools and construction plans
- Ability to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications
- Strong working knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete safety orientation
- Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers
- Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety
- Strong swimming skills
