Job Description:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Conservation Manager to join our team in Laikipia.
The Conservation Manager will play a crucial role in leading and implementing conservation initiatives within the conservancy. They will be responsible for overseeing various projects aimed at preserving biodiversity, mitigating human-wildlife conflict, and promoting sustainable land management practices.

The position will be reporting to the General Manager of the conservancy. And in his absence take on the key point of contact and responsibility for the conservancy and day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement conservation strategies and action plans in line with the conservancy & goals and objectives.
2. Conduct regular monitoring and assessments on the health of ecosystems, wildlife populations, and habitats within the conservancy.
3. Set up and implement an Operations Radio room that will be the center for all Wildlife Monitoring and Security activities in the Conservancy. Working with the Security Manager to ensure that all reporting and coordination is done to a high standard.
4. Coordinate and collaborate with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions, to achieve conservation objectives.
5. Manage and oversee conservation projects, including habitat restoration, invasive species removal, and community outreach programs.
6. Supervise the Scouts and Rangers with wildlife monitoring, researchers, and volunteers involved in conservation activities, providing guidance, support, and training as needed.
7. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation interventions, adjusting strategies as necessary to achieve desired outcomes, and Monitor and quantify the Rangeland and Holistic Management systems of the livestock.

8. Maintain accurate records and data related to conservation activities, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and funding guidelines.
9. Represent the conservancy in meetings, workshops, and conferences related to conservation and wildlife management.
10. Advocate for policies and practices that promote conservation and sustainable development in the region.
11. Stay abreast of current research, trends, and best practices in conservation biology, ecology, and natural resource management.
12. Manage all MOUs with other conservation and research organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Management, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in conservation management, preferably in a similar role within a protected area or conservation organization.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team of professionals and stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including planning, budgeting, and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with experience using GIS software and other relevant tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna, as well as the socio-economic dynamics of the Laikipia region.
  • Commitment to conservation ethics and principles, passionate about protecting natural ecosystems and wildlife.
