ABOUT FACSCA PROJECT
The Fairtrade Alliance for Climate-Smart Supply Chains in Africa (FACSCA), is supported by the CO-OP (a major UK retailer) and implemented by Fairtrade Africa in partnership with the Fairtrade Foundation and close collaboration with Fairtrade-certified Producer Organizations (POs) in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. FACSCA is a 28-months project which was launched in 2021. The overall objective of the programme is to enable farmers and workers to adapt to a changing climate and maintain adequate productivity levels that support the supply chain, stability and return on investment. The regional project coordinator shall coordinate and lead a team of staff and trainers of trainers (ToTs) in the implementation of pending field activities and producer services under the project, while ensuring that donor requirements are met during the implementation, monitoring and reporting of programme activities.
Key Project Pillars and Objectives
The FACSCA programme has been designed to contribute to the realization of the right to sustainable livelihood for coffee, tea and flower producers’ households experiencing the effects of climate change in 12 Producer Organizations across Eastern Africa. Specifically, the project intends to contribute to the following result areas:
- Farmers and workers improve their institutional and management capacity to enable them to make decisions and take action to tackle climate change more effectively.
- Improved farmers’ resilience to climate change for increased productivity and quality of produce.
- Farmers make more efficient use of natural resources in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Increased opportunities for farmers and workers to diversify and engage in alternative income-generating activities.
SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
FTA is seeking the services of a qualified individual to:
- Provide supervision and ensure coordinated efforts by the regional partners and country officers in Rwanda, Kenya, and Ethiopia, towards timely and quality processes, outputs, and impacts for the pending interventions of the FACSCA Project until project closure in December 2023.
- Provide producer and partnership support for successful project closure.
- Offer support towards the monitoring and evaluation processes.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
Deliverable 1: Project Management
- Plan and monitor day-to-day field activities in conjunction with programme and project team.
- Develop and review realistic workplans based on programmatic needs.
- Undertake joint planning and scheduling of capacity development activities with producer and workers at targeted organizations.
- Capture data to support the measurement of outputs, outcomes, and impact of project interventions.
- Monitor budget disbursements for field programme implementation.
- Coordinate with the thematic leads in programme activity implementation.
Deliverable 2: Producer and Partnership Support
- Initiate and maintain relationships with local communities, public and government institutions, and other stakeholders towards the success of the programme.
- Manage risks and optimize opportunities in programme implementation.
- Support and provide advice to producer organizations to enable access to trade and market opportunities relating to the program activities.
- Support the development and communication of impact stories from programme interventions.
- Influence localized policies and perceptions in favour of Fairtrade Africa with the supportt of the Programme Team Leader
Deliverable 3: Monitoring and Evaluation support
- Provide timely and quality reports on the grant, monitoring and evaluation reports, finance reports, and programme activities.
- Regularly discuss performance, giving timely constructive feedback and providing support to address issues that could affect programme delivery
DESIRED EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE
FTA is looking for an individual consultant with the following qualifications, skills and competence:
- Qualifications
University Degree required, preferably in Project Management, Economics, Social Science, Agriculture or related field
- Experience and Skills
- At least 5 years’ experience agricultural development with team management experience
- Experience in supporting ethical and sustainable supply chains
- Knowledge of agricultural development and sustainable business practices
- Knowledge and understanding of Fairtrade Standards
- Strong programme field implementation experience
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with multi-functional and diverse teams
- Good coordination and organizational skills
- Excellent training and facilitation skills
DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The successful individual is expected to carry out the assignment over 7 months from the date of signing the contract, until the end of the project.
