Consultant for Climate Resiliency through Bamboo Propagation & Nursery Establishment At Islamic Relief

JOB SUMMARY:

The Consultant will work closely with Project Officer especially in community mobilization and social preparation prior to its implementation.

The Consultant for Climate Resiliency through Bamboo Propagation & Nursery Development for Sustainable Livelihood and Climate Resiliency is responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance in the areas of bamboo propagation and nursery development to support the sustainable livelihoods and climate resiliency initiatives.

The job may involve working with various stakeholders such as local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and other organizations to develop and implement bamboo propagation and nursery development programs. The Consultant is expected to have expertise in the cultivation and propagation of bamboo, as well as knowledge of the various uses of bamboo, such as for construction, furniture, handicrafts, and other applications.

The Consultant is expected to conduct assessments and provide recommendations on appropriate bamboo species, propagation methods, nursery development, and management practices to ensure success of the program. He/she is also responsible for the training and capacity building of local stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the program.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide capacity building for climate resiliency such as erosion control, watershed protection, carbon sequestration, global warming, its causes and disaster preparedness.
• Develop appropriate bamboo propagation and nursey techniques that are sustainable and eco-friendly.
• Identify suitable bamboo species for propagation and develop propagation techniques that are appropriate for each species.
• Provide technical assistance and training to community members on bamboo propagation and nursery management.
• Responsible for setting up and develop a nursery site with panting materials.
• Develop marketing plan for bamboo products and provide guidance on value-added products.
• The Consultant will need to submit the following:

1. Training design and plan for the first phase of the training on Climate Change, Bamboo Propagation and Nursery Development.
2. Accomplishment report and training design for Bamboo Craftmanship Training.
3. Final accomplishment report.

• The Consultant will report to the Project Officer and provide regular updates on progress and challenges encountered during the implementation of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Atleast 3 years professional experience on implementing Climate Resiliency Program.
• Proven expertise on Bamboo Propagation, Care and Bamboo Craft Engineering.
• Being widely recognized bamboo propagation advocate.
• Existing Bamboo Nursey Operator.
• Well-verse in organizational and enterprise development.
• Willingness to follow IRW’s norms and values without compromising personal beliefs and principles.
• Excellent writing and communication skills (high proficiency in the English language).
