Background
Living Goods (LG) has over fifteen years of experience developing and implementing data-driven and digital performance management approaches for community health workers in Kenya and Uganda.

Since 2020, Living Goods has been supporting the Burkina Faso Ministry of Health to implement its community health strategy, and to design, develop and implement a digital health tool for community-based health workers (CBWs) and their supervisors, ensuring that the tool reflects the priorities of the Ministry of Health and integrates Living Goods best practices.

In order to strengthen the capacities of the Ministry of Health in digital health governance and planning, Living Goods is looking for a Consultant – Product Management Specialist to provide technical assistance and strengthen the lifecycle management of digital health solutions of the community digitalization project with the Information Systems Directorate (DSI) of the Ministry of Health (MS).

Details
This is a one-year contract, renewable based on performance and availability of funds.
The Consultant – Product Management Specialist will be seconded to the Information Systems Directorate (DSI) and will report to the Director of the said department. He/she will also be placed under the supervision of the Senior Manager Digital Health, Living Goods BF. He/she will work closely with the DSI technical team and the Consultant – Technical Program Lead for the Ministry of Health on the complete lifecycle management of digital health solutions throughout the product development cycle. These include mobile and web applications used by ASBCs and their supervisors, complex ETL data pipelines, data visualization solutions and learning management platforms.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Define the product strategy, manage the product roadmap and prioritized list of tasks for the development team (backlog) to deliver incremental changes and continuous delivery in an agile manner;
  • Develop detailed product plans and delivery schedules and ensure key milestones are met;
  • Coordinate with other stakeholders to develop detailed functional and non-functional requirements for the development team;
  • Manage the entire product development lifecycle, from ideation, strategy, planning, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and support, through end of product life.
  • Manage ongoing stakeholder engagement to ensure stakeholders and the development team are aligned on scope, priorities and deadlines;
  • Foster collaboration between internal and external stakeholders on requirements definition, feature design and user interface improvement using various tools such as user stories, flowcharts and wireframes;
  • Obtain necessary approvals for features/products from relevant stakeholders;
  • Collaborate closely with grantees, strategic partners, development teams, technology vendors, open-source communities and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure optimal delivery;
  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance of digital health products by working closely with the digital operations and software engineering teams;
  • Measure, track, improve and analyze product performance and user satisfaction metrics through iterative feedback loops;
  • Provide progress updates and required reporting on product development to management, stakeholders, partners and beneficiaries.

All of the above will be carried out in support of the Consultant – Technical Program Lead .

Skills and competencies

  • At least five years of experience in a product management or software development role with client facing experience.
  • Experience in the digital health sector, particularly within a non-profit organization, is an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in agile product management methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban;
  • Experience working closely with engineering teams, external digital health partners and end users;
  • Proficiency in technical discussions and ability to translate user needs into functional requirements;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including end users, strategic partners and technical teams;
  • Proven ability to successfully lead teams and projects;
  • Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams to achieve project and organizational goals;
  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage uncertainty and lead problem-solving initiatives;
  • Ability to think outside the box to solve complex problems and drive innovation;
  • Be creative and have exceptional problem-solving skills;
  • Strong curiosity, taste for learning and exploring new technologies with potential for innovation;
  • Enthusiasm and passion for digital health in the service of development.

Minimum qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, digital health or a related discipline;
  • Certifications in product development, innovation and design are an added advantage.
