APPENDIX 1 : TERMS OF REFERENCES

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, independent, non-profit bin times of crisis.

As part of its Duty of Care policy, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) wishes to recruit a Consultant Psychologist or firm through a framework service contract.

Term of Reference for the consultation

In direct collaboration with the HR-Manager and Area Manager, the psychologist is in charge of providing individual and/or collective psychological support to NRC Cameroon staff based in South-West /North West, Far North, East and Central (Yaoundé) regions as well as designing, developing and implementing preventive, curative and research actions to promote the physical and psychological health and well-being of the staff.

Specific responsibilities

Individual psychological support for employees in need

  • Symptomatic assessment (post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, burnout) before and after group by means of specialized questionnaires
  • Psychological support at the employee’s request, after validation by the HR Manager
  • Assessment of satisfaction with the support approach.

Stress and trauma management training in group

  • Psycho education stress and trauma, increased social support and relaxation.
  • Strengthening self-care techniques.
  • Creation and facilitation of ad-hoc stress management groups according to themes and needs.
  • Organize awareness and communication days on the rules of health, safety and well-being at work

Practice analysis groups for teams exposed to traumatic stress in their work place

  • Organize and conduct psychological support sessions for colleagues who are victims of serious incidents (kidnapping, attack, burglary, accident etc.)
  • Help victims to become aware of injuries and overcome them
  • Refer cases requiring psychiatric assistance by referring them to health institutions concern

Training of managers in defusing techniques and security incident management

  • Conduct analysis and assessment of the psychological risks of our intervention areas (South-West /North West, Far North, East and Central (Yaoundé) regions) and make recommendations
  • Technical analysis of the working environment, working conditions, health and safety in our various offices.
  • Train supervisors and people involved in the social management of critical incidents and stress management.

Qualities

  • Clinical psychologist (Bac + 5), with good knowledge of trauma psychology.
  • Relevant experience in the practice of psychotherapy with traumatized populations.
  • Training in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies,
  • Good experience working with international humanitarian NGOs.
  • Have a sense of confidentiality, good communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Good mastery of English and French, both written and spoken
  • Knowledge of the context, habits, cultures, local languages spoken in our areas of intervention (South-West /North West, Far North, East and Central (Yaoundé) regions) is a considerable asset
  • Ability to move in difficult areas

NB/ The consultant Psychologist is not an NRC employee. For this purpose, he will be paid by the task on presentation of an invoice and a report.
