Coordinator (f/m/d) Deutsche Welle DR Congo Office At Deutsche Welle

DW is seeking a Coordinator (f/m/d) Deutsche Welle DR Congo Office for Programming in Kinshasa as of 1 September 2024 or as soon as possible on the basis of an unlimited local staff contract.

YOUR CHALLENGES

  • Serve as Coordinator of the DW DR Congo Office and Correspondent for French for Africa
  • Coordination of the office in Kinshasa and operational planning of the team
  • Provision of relevant content from the DR Congo for French for Africa and DW’s overall offering
  • Commentary on current events, preparing offerings for central distribution, live appearances on DW News in English
  • Conceptual and strategic further development of the offerings from Kinshasa, especially online and social media, as well as radio and TV
  • Reporting to the DW editorial management in Bonn, strengthening of on-site production and the network of correspondents
  • Representation of DW vis-à-vis Congolese authorities in all matters concerning the office; representation at internal and external events in the DR Congo and maintaining contact with multipliers and institutions in the DR Congo
  • Attendance of conferences and being on call at weekends and on public holidays

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant university degree and completed traineeship or equivalent journalistic qualification
  • Long-standing professional experience as a journalist in a multimedia broadcasting and editorial office in the fields of news, politics and economics; experience as a foreign correspondent
  • Ability to analyze political and geostrategic contexts; good knowledge of the political system in the DR Congo and the social, historical and cultural developments in the region
  • Very good knowledge of the media landscape in the DR Congo; high level of expertise in developing strategies and sound knowledge of digital media developments, especially for the DR Congo
  • Excellent journalistic skills in all media, with a high affinity for social media and a cross-media approach; experience with production software of a multimedia editorial team (CMS, Open Media, etc.) and good knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, X
  • Experience in the design, management and financial management of projects in an international context
  • Knowledge of French at native speaker level and very good knowledge of English, as well as willingness to learn German
  • Experience in operational management and leading teams with strong social and intercultural skills and respect for diversity
