The Norwegian Refugee Council is looking for an experienced leader to join the Iraq Country Office as Country Director. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with previous Country Director experience, to lead one of NRC’s largest Country Programmes in the Middle East Region.
Duties and responsibilities
The Country Director has the overall responsibility for the country operation in Iraq. The CD will take leadership in driving strategy, have overall responsibility for staff, and contribute to programme development, with a particular focus on driving durable solutions. As one of the largest country programmes in the Middle East Region, the CD plays a significant role in leadership and management of staff.
Key responsibilities
- Overall management of the Iraq Country Office
- Development and execution of country strategy, including driving Durable Solutions programming
- Leadership of a large country programme, with direct staff management of a team of senior managers
- Country level advocacy
- Resource allocation and mobilization
- Continuously promote a positive and collaborative working environment characterized by high levels of trust and respect, with due consideration for staff care and wellbeing

Required experience and competencies:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience from working as a Senior Manager in humanitarian/recovery context
- Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Strong diplomacy, networking and relationship building skills
- Previous experience as a Country Director
- Previous experience working in similar contexts
- Knowledge of the context in Iraq
- Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal
- Arabic language skills, desirable
