The Opportunity

Be the Catalyst for Change as Trócaire’s Country Director in the DRC! As the Country Director, you will assume a pivotal strategic leadership position in the Country Office and as part of Trocaire’s International Division, driving the organisation’s mission and achieving its goals. This dynamic role calls for an experienced, innovative, and visionary individual – you will be at the helm of a vibrant and motivated team, where the strategic importance of locally led initatives is understood and supported. As the Country Director, you will provide guidance to our country programme fostering impact and innovation and a culture that values empowerment and partnership. You will spearhead our advocacy and policy efforts in the DRC, actively engaging decision-makers at local, national, and international levels while empowering local partners to do the same. You will work in a place where you will add value and respond effectively to the humanitarian and development complexities in the Eastern DRC.

Trócaire has an exciting and well-established programme in the DRC. Trócaire has been working with national and local actors since the mid 1990s and opened a liaison office in Kinshasa in 2008. We moved the Country Office to Bunia, Ituri Province in 2015 to be closer to our partners and communities we support.

The country programme partners with 16 national and local organisations across all 5 zones in Ituri to achieve peace and resilience through sustainable livlihoods, women’s voice and influence in local decision-making processes, protection against sexual and gender-based violence and by providing humanitarian assistance to displaced communities through cash transfers, WASH, emergency food security & livelihoods activities.

Core to Trócaire’s partnership approach in the DRC and globally is the support of local civil society organisations to strengthen their institutional, financial, technical, and managerial capacities. DRC is a member of Trócaire’s Portfolio on Fragile & Conflicted Affected States together with Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Lebanon/Syria and Myanmar.

Reporting to the Head of Portfolio, Fragile & Conflict Affected States, you will lead a team of 25 dedicated professionals and manage a diverse portfolio of approximately 16 local and national partners. Located in Bunia, Eastern DRC, this role entails frequent travel to partner, project, and community sites, to Goma and Kinshasa and periodic travel outside the DRC.
