The Opportunity

The Country Finance Manager is responsible for leading, managing and developing the finance team to support the implementation of financial standards, processes and systems throughout Plan International Sierra to enable the office to deliver on its program strategies and accountabilities to children, communities and donors.

As a member of the Country Management Team, the CFM contributes to the development of the strategy of the country, understands the impact of policy changes on Finance strategy, acts as a financial partner in management, and advises the management team on financial matters. Sets and ensures implementation of procedures, guidelines and work instructions for the financial administration of offices and carries out, optimizes and oversees the financial accounting within the country and the Regional office.

The CFM also provides timely and reliable financial information and analysis that leads to effective decision-making and also ensures full compliance with Plan International’s and official Sierra Leone financial procedures.

Do you have what it takes?

Essential

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration
  • Proven experience in finance management
  • Excellent financial analytical skills
  • Extensive experience in a managerial role, especially in an International NGO
  • Proficient in Microsoft office packages, general ledger, grants tracking and SAP system
  • Strong knowledge of the requirements of donors’ compliance and grants management
  • Demonstrable knowledge as a result of education, training or practical experience on the key debates in development, particularly around child rights
  • Practical knowledge of operations support for the development sector
  • Fluency in English
  • Proven effective management skills leading teams across several sites and operating in a multi-cultural and matrix management structure
  • Ability to demonstrate and foster in team members a strong commitment to meeting the needs of other employees and managers for financial services
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good coaching skills

Desirable

  • Self-awareness and resilience – operating in a highly volatile and developing context
  • Experience within NGOs environments

Location: We will be recruiting globally for this role, but the individual must be based in Freetown, Sierra Leone and therefore support with relocation is available.
