Country Representative, Hungary, 100% At HEKS/EPER

HEKS/EPER, Swiss Church Aid, supports projects designed to combat hunger, poverty and injustice in over 30 countries on four continents. HEKS/EPER also provides worldwide humanitarian assistance for victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts and supports the Church’s diaconal work in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. In Switzerland, HEKS/EPER champions the rights and causes of refugees and socially disadvantaged people. Through its development and social policy work in the fields of climate justice, access to land and food, migration, and integration, HEKS/EPER strives for systemic change – globally and in Switzerland.

The Country Representative Hungary is responsible for the successful operation and monitoring of projects of HEKS/EPER Whole of Ukraine response in Hungary as well as the Social Inclusion projects with a focus on Roma and Refugees in Hungary and neighbouring countries (Slowakia, Serbia, Transcarpathia) and reports to the Head of Programmes Eastern Europe / Middle East.

The Country Representative works closely with the regional team for the Whole of Ukraine Response and the Field Officer in Transcarpathia, as well as partner organisations.

Your main responsibilities:

You ensure succesful implementation of the HEKS/EPER projects in Hungary (and neighbouring countries)

  • You conduct effective monitoring of the projects’ activities (attainment of objectives, monitoring of indicators, in compliance with the schedule of activities, budget monitoring, contractual report, etc.)
  • You work with the Partner Organisations to encourage and empower staff and to support capacity building
  • You support in administering the full cycle of project management activities
  • You provide day to day follow-up of humanitarian project activities, including tracking budgets, payments, compliance, modifications and reporting
  • You are responsible for all internal and external programmatic reporting

You are responsible for Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability

  • You maintain an overall monitoring and planning system In close cooperation with partner organisations
  • You coordinate programme evaluations and reviews, ensures documentation of lessons learned
  • You coordinate learning and exchange among partner organisations and with other units within HEKS
  • You ensure HEKS and international quality standards are fulfilled throughout the project management cycle and that gender, protection, enabling environment for civil society and conflict sensitivity are mainstreamed in all programming
  • You cooperate with HEKS MEAL team to provide technical support around MEAL to the partner organisations
  • You participate in the review of the strategy for HEKS in Hungary and for Eastern Europe and leads joint strategic and reflection processes with the partner organisations

You ensures HEKS representation

  • You represent the organization locally to donors, NGOs, International Organizations and local authorities, local churches and church related networks
  • You coordinate visits of representatives of HEKS, donors and partners

To be successful you bring:

  • Min. 5 years of experience in project management of humanitarian and/or development projects
  • A proven record of proposal development and reporting
  • Effective project and people management
  • Good capacity in community mobilization and knowledge of participatory approaches
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts
  • Experience in working with church related organisations or local churches and civil society
  • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to build good relations both internally and externally.
  • Fluent in English and Hungarian, knowledge of additional languages of the regiona are an asset
