As Deputy Design & Production Manager, you will support the Design & Production Manager in leading the Turquoise Mountain’s Design and Production Team, with particular responsibility for work within Palestine. In your role, you will develop designs and products using Palestinian crafts, and work on building Turquoise Mountain’s relationship with artisans in Palestine. You will also be responsible for conducting quality control, receiving finished goods, generating ideas for new designs, and researching craft-making techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Design & Production Manager in leading the Design and Production team in Palestine.
- Conduct site visits and meet with artisans to assess their skills, techniques, and materials to develop potential collaborations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with new artisans, including conducting regular communication and visits, providing feedback on samples and prototypes, and negotiating prices.
- Research and document craft-making techniques and visual language associated with crafts while conducting meetings and interviews with artisans.
- Assist in developing new collections and product lines based on research and sampling with new artisans.
- Create and develop necessary drawings for designs, such as technical drawings and renderings.
- Managing production across different workshops.
- Record production know-how and acquired knowledge.
- Research and provide solutions to finishing and construction techniques.
- Research and understand availability, alternative raw material, and supplies involved in production processes.
- Work with the Design & Production Manager to refine product designs, materials, and production techniques based on feedback from new artisans.
- Conduct ongoing research and sampling with new artisans to ensure a pipeline of new products and designs for future production.
- Suggest and assist in leading collaborations with external initiatives.
- Identify and research new artisans and craftspeople in Palestine, to expand the pool of potential collaborators.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports on ongoing projects, collaborations with artisans, and product development to the Design & Production Manager.
- Compile and analyze data related to production output, costs, and quality control to inform decision-making by the Design & Production Manager.
- Provide any analyses as requested by the Design & Production Manager, such as market research on new product opportunities, budget projections, or updates on collaboration progress.
- Provide support and assistance for any other tasks asked by the Country Director, Deputy Country Director, or the Design & Production Manager.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of three-years of experience.
- A degree in Design/ Interior Architecture/ Architecture is required.
- The ability to understand and conceive of technical drawings.
- Knowledge of AutoCad and rendering programs is essential.
- Ability to conduct effective research.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Arabic and English.
- Experience in cultural heritage is preferred.
