Deputy Principal At Still I Rise

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the School Principal with the day-to-day running of the operations of the program, in collaboration with the Logistics Officer, Administration Officer and the Child Safeguarding and Protection Officer.
  • Support the School Principal in the implementation of the international curriculum and all other educational matters, as is needed.
  • Ensure on-the-ground implementation of senior management decisions and initiatives .
  • Raise new ideas, future projects, strategies and proposals with the School Principal
  • Oversee, together with the Child Safeguarding & Protection Officer, any referral of child protection concerns as well as child safeguarding issues.
  • Ensure the training and monitoring of staff on Still I Rise’s Child Protection and Safeguarding policies, reporting any issues to the Programs Director.
  • Establish a monthly schedule for the management team with the support of the School Principal
  • Investigate and resolve any issues or conflict that may arise between staff, to be reported to the School Principal.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports, with the School Principal, to be shared with the Programs Director.
  • Ensure timely submissions of work plans, reports and other deliverables required by donors.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships and communication with local stakeholders and partners, representing Still I Rise in meetings.
  • Implement project management processes to assign responsibilities, set milestones, and keep track of performance and deliverables.
  • Ensure school maintenance and other safety protocols are adhered to on a scheduled basis.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects relating to school event and excursions
  • Perform other duties as required.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • In cooperation with the Logistics Officer and School Principal keep track of all finances and ensure expenditures are in accordance with the workplan and budget.
  • Ensure funds are distributed in accordance with the donor’s rules and procedures.
  • Accounting records and supporting documents are organised and properly kept (soft and hard copies) as well as sent to the Programs Director in a timely manner.
  • Ensure procurement rules are being upheld and work closely with the Logistics Officer to ensure this.
  • Collaboration with HR Department and Administrative Officer in scheduling annual, and ad hoc, recruitment plans
  • Development and implementation of the school year calendar and lesson scheduling in coordination with the School Principal
  • Take care of the school management software, updating information and schedule and making sure all departments are correctly and consistently updated and used appropriately; attendance record, lesson planning, concerns, evaluation, students/staff accounts, etc.
  • Track accurate list of needs related to books, materials and supplies, maintenance needs, professional development, and any other costs in preparation for the development of the annual school budget
  • Support teachers and Logistics Officer in requesting materials and resources on a timely manner
  • Coordinate administration office activities and operations to secure efficiency and compliance to SIR policies. (e.g.: creation, maintenance, and update of employee records)

Safety and Security Management

  • Promote the health and security of the staff of the designated projects by ensuring the application of security guidelines, health and safety in the workplace and healthy living conditions and practices.
  • Monitor and review the security status of the areas of operation on a regular basis, liaising as applicable with local authorities, other NGOs, the UN or other relevant security bodies and School Principal.
  • Oversee and monitor staff adherence to security protocols, including safety and security incident reports.
  • Ensure security plans and protocols for the areas of operation are updated and implemented in response to changes in the security situation, in coordination with the Program Director.
  • Handle emergencies and school crises in collaboration with the School Principal

REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of school administrative processes and Kenyan national educational regulations
  • Experience with children aged 10 to 17
  • Previous experience as a Deputy Principal or similar position
  • Good conduct certificate
  • TSC Number
  • Academic or professional certificates
  • Experience in team management
  • Excellent English communication skills
  • Ability to coach and inspire
  • Experience with MS Office and Google Suite
  • Experience in child protection is a plus
  • Kenyan nationality
