Context :

Terre des hommes Lausanne (Tdh), founded in 1960, is Switzerland’s largest children’s rights organization. Tdh is dedicated to bringing about significant and lasting change in the lives of children and young people, particularly those most at risk. Tdh is active in some thirty countries, in both humanitarian and development contexts.

In sub-Saharan Africa, Tdh operates directly in 8 countries (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Guinea-Conakry, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria and Senegal) and through partnerships in 6 other countries (Benin, Cameroon, Madagascar, Niger, Togo and Uganda).

As part of the decentralization of its organizational model, Tdh is opening a regional office in Dakar, Senegal, for which a position of Deputy Regional Director of Operations has been created.

Main responsibilities:

  • Represents, encourages and promotes the organizational and socio-cultural values ​​of the organization.
  • Strengthens support and cohesion between countries and the regional office through interdepartmental collaboration
  • Optimizes resources at the regional level while contributing to the organization’s overall objectives.
  • Acts as the primary contact for Country Directors, providing day-to-day support and guidance.
  • Analyzes regional issues and drives strategy on the ground.
  • Supports the development and implementation of operational responses in country offices and for responses to emergencies and humanitarian crises.
  • Temporarily deploys to a country of intervention in the event of a gap or occasional support required.
  • Strengthens Tdh’s capacity to work in contexts of high insecurity and to respond to humanitarian crises in the region.
  • Monitors, analyzes and reports operational performance indicators.
  • Participates in budget management and determines the necessary human and technical resources.
  • Participates in the analysis of contexts having an impact on the activities and programs of the delegations.
  • Monitors and alerts on risks related to team security, project financing and potential litigation.
  • An inspiring leader, he/she promotes collaboration, innovation and excellence.

Profile :

Education: Advanced degree in a relevant field such as international relations, international development or a related field.

Experience / Skills:

  • At least two years of experience in a similar position at the regional level or at least five years in a country-level management position in the humanitarian and international development sector. Experience working in the region is a plus.
  • Very good understanding of geopolitical issues and the complex dynamics of our intervention contexts.
  • In-depth knowledge of children’s rights and international humanitarian standards, local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions.
  • Highly developed collaborative and cross-functional leadership skills. Strong ability to lead and motivate a diverse and remote team.
  • Experience in financial and budgetary management, human resources management and project management.
  • Proven experience in managing organizational and operational transformation
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including donors, partners and governments.
  • Integrity, judgment and diplomacy
  • Ability to travel to countries of intervention in the region

LANGUAGES :

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.

Fluency in Arabic would be a plus.

IT knowledge:

Perfect mastery of IT tools (Office Pack)

Salary :

The conditions of employment depend on the residence of the selected candidate.
The salary range for this position is set: 4,130,000 XOF and 5,390,000 XOF (depending on professional experience).
