1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:
Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
IOM began its operations in Thailand in 1975, assisting the resettlement of Indo-Chinese refugees to countries offering them permanent residence. With the Kingdom of Thailand joining IOM as a member state in 1986, the organization’s cooperation with the Royal Thai Government has expanded to cover all aspects of migration affecting the Kingdom and its neighbours, including labour migration, migration health, counter-trafficking, emergency and post-crisis, institution building, border management, security and law enforcement.
Today, IOM has a strong presence in Thailand with over 300 personnel working on more than 50 active projects in eleven locations across the country. The IOM Mission in Thailand has a main office in central Bangkok, four sub offices and six other project offices in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang, Mae Sot and Samut Prakarn.
Under the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, the successful candidate will assist in the implementation of media, visibility and awareness raising initiatives by providing digital communications support – including graphic design, photography, videography and editing. The candidate will work in close coordination with programme units, in particular the Labour Migration and Social Inclusion (LMI) Unit and Assistance to Vulnerable Migrants/Counter-Trafficking (AVM/CT) Unit.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Design information, education and communication (IEC) materials, especially in relation to the protection and rights of migrant workers.
- Support the development, management and updating of content on IOM Thailand’s website and social media accounts.
- Support the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of digital campaigns.
- Coordinate with vendors on the production and translation of IEC materials into different languages.
- Participate in the implementation of community outreach and awareness raising activities on safe migration.
- Enhance the visibility of programme activities by covering events and facilitating media coverage of events.
- Conduct video interviews with project beneficiaries and draft short stories.
- Monitor media coverage on the mission’s work and other media developments on migration.
- Undertake duty travel when necessary.
- Perform other duties as required.
3. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
EDUCATION
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a graduate degree programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a university or graduate degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one-year of graduation; or
EXPERIENCE
- Well-versed on Thailand’s media landscape.
- Well-versed on the work and mandate of the United Nations.
- Experience in community engagement, outreach, advocacy or awareness raising initiatives.
- Experience in liaising with government, civil society and media partners is an advantage.
- Good grasp of migration dynamics in Thailand is an advantage.
SKILLS
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills
- Experience in digital content creation, including graphic design, photography, videography, and editing.
- Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, in particular Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and/or PremierePro.
4. LANGUAGES
- Fluency in English and Thai (oral and written)
- Working knowledge of Burmese or Khmer is an advantage
