Director, HR Business Partner at Vital Strategies

The Director HR Business Partner is a new position at Vital Strategies and will guide and support our expanding Public Health Program division that currently has over 100 employees across 5 continents. This exciting new opportunity includes partnering with programmatic leaders in workforce planning, job design, onboarding, and engagement. The Director will possess strong business acumen, organization development, and human resources expertise coupled with consulting skills required to aid in guidance and development of people functions within the division. Our ideal candidate has a passion for solving complex people challenges, comfortable managing multiple stakeholders at various levels, and an ability to negotiate competing priorities and deadlines.

This position will be part of the global HR team providing dedicated support to the PHP division bringing technical expertise and ensuring organizational alignment. The Director will collaborate with the global people team to shape a work environment that aims to be diverse and inclusive. The Director will also partner with the team in the design and implementation of new processes and systems including performance management and learning and development initiatives.

This is a full time, hybrid position based out of our New York City office location.

This is a full time position based out of our New York City office location, where a hybrid office schedule is in place. We offer highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $120,000-$130,000 USD. The candidate much have eligibility to work in the U.S. at time of hire

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Workforce planning and onboarding: partner with divisional leadership to create workforce plans, support hiring managers in addressing their business needs and translating that into defined job descriptions for recruitment. Collaborate with divisional leaders to develop and deliver high quality divisional onboarding.
  • Management and performance: support divisional and program management reinforcing a continuous feedback culture, coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions.
  • Learning and development: identify training needs for business units and liaise with Director of Talent Acquisition and Management to address.
  • DEI Ambassador: ensure diversity, equity and inclusion is embedded into people practices and work with Task Force on various initiatives.
  • Support: The Director serves as a coach and consultant to the division’s program heads and managers as well as other employees on management matters. The Director will coach managers and leaders on HR policies and processes, inclusive of talent planning, development, and performance management in order to promote a culture of continuous growth and development.
  • Collaboration: The role of the Director is also a highly collaborative one where the incumbent will collaborate with HR team in developing and executing a lifecycle approach to people management focused on forecasting, staffing, development, on-boarding, performance management, retention, talent movement, and leveraging workforce insights and analytics that can be used for PHP division. The Director will also work with HR team in ensuring the implementation of best practices and compliance to legislation at all times.
  • Analytics: The Director leverages divisional workforce insights, develops and analyzes analytics in order to focus division leaders on relevant people management issues offering strategies and solutions including development plans and promotion.
  • People Operations: provide input on global policies and core business processes to reduce legal risk and ensure appropriate regulatory compliance. Collaborate with global HR team in areas such as: compensation administration, onboarding, employee relations, and internal investigations.

Education:

Minimally, a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business or any other related field.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in all HR functional areas, with strong consult and coaching skills, successfully partnering with business leaders to drive individual, team, and divisional performance
  • Ability to build strong, ongoing, impactful relationships at all organizational levels and across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational, and social backgrounds
  • Expert level of technical HR skill, expertise, compliance understanding and the latest trends and best practices
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, confident, persuasive presentation skills, organizational influence, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, negotiation, problem solving skills.
  • Flexible and open to change, highly organized, strong work ethic and ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines.

Experience required:

  • 10 years’ work experience in human resources with minimal three years in a senior position
  • Experience working in a strategic business partner/leadership role
  • Experience working in a global environment with non-profit experience highly preferred
  • Experience successfully guiding program heads and divisional leadership in change management initiatives and shared decision making.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification a plus
