Lifting Hands International is looking for a Director of Human Resources to start in Greece in May 2023 and commit for at least six months. About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Role Profile
As Director of HR, you will work closely with the Director of Operations, the Director of Distributions & Logistics, and the Country Director to lead and empower our team members and ensure the health and success of Serres programs. This role entails home-office and field-based work, including regular visits to the community center.
The focus of this position includes 1) the recruitment & onboarding of team members, 2) the provision of a healthy, sustainable, and professional working environment through training and continual individual support and well-being promotion, 3) the coordination of the involvement and empowerment of community members through the programs of Community Engagement and Professional Development.
Community Engagement: To empower camp community members to participate in the design, implementation, and decision-making of LHI programming in Serres and thus contribute their time and skills to the well-being of the overall camp community.
Professional Development: Providing a safe, structured, and inclusive space for psychosocial activities that encourage & enable community members to develop their professional capacity through skill & vocational training implemented with maximal community involvement.
Core Tasks
- Recruitment of all team members (issuing calls, screening candidates, conducting interviews)
- Coordination & onboarding of incoming volunteers, incl. induction, safeguarding, and safety training
- Collaboration with the director team, helping to oversee a large multicultural team of visiting and community volunteers
- Management of conflicts and concerns of an HR nature
- Organization of training and learning opportunities throughout volunteers’ placements on program & well-being-related topics
- Provision & development of individual support and well-being promotion, e.g., through regular check-ins.
- Provision & development of monitoring and evaluation tools to effectively collect and process feedback by team members towards collaborative project development
- Support of social and team-building events for the volunteer team
- Provision & development of living and support structure allowing sustainable and long-term project involvement
- Engagement with external partners and organizations to share best practices and inform operational decisions
- Line management, strategic development & collaboration with the two program managers of Community Engagement & Professional Development
Essential Criteria
- Minimum six-month commitment, must be able to remain in Greece for the full period without visa restrictions
- At least 1-year experience in a coordination role
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
- Previous experience in people management in a multicultural team
- Proven ability to work in a self-directed way without constant supervision
- Fluent English speaker
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant degree(s) in a related field
- Understanding of the implementation of Psycho-Social-Support programs
- Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
- International Drivers License
