Lifting Hands International is looking for a Education Manager to start in January 2023 in Greece with a minimum six-month commitment.
About Us
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Role Profile
Through this opportunity, you will develop your management skills and help an established NGO to sharpen and grow its services for asylum seekers and refugees. Your particular focus will be to empower asylum seekers & refugees and foster psychosocial support through language education.
The Education program encompasses a range of levels of both English and German non-formal language classes.
- Close collaboration with the Director of Operations and fellow program managers in overseeing a large multicultural team of international and community volunteers
- Conducting inductions, provision of training and support in non-formal education and PSS (psychosocial support) through education to incoming volunteers (international volunteers and community volunteers among the camp population)
- Teaching classes if needed, for instance during handover between education volunteers or in the eventuality of shortage of teachers
- Overseeing the design and adaptation of the curriculum for each class
- Organizing timetables and class groups according to the evolving needs of program participants
- Conducting regular feedback collections and needs assessments
- Submitting concise monthly reports on the education program
- Manage the allocated budget for program resources
- Manage the online and physical didactic resources
- Manage the library and the activities related to the library
- Coordinate with other NGOs and organizations across Greece that provide education resources, training, and advice for volunteers
Essential Criteria
- Experience in formal and/or non-formal education
- Experience in teaching English and/or German as second language
- Knowledge of the refugee context in Greece
- Cultural sensitivity, basic knowledge of PSS
- Experience in Curriculum Design
- Proactive: Able to work well independently and without constant supervision
- Previous experience of people management
- Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
- Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
- Minimum six month commitment
- Fluent English speaker
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of German / Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
- International Drivers License
- Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
