Education Project Manager Burkina Faso Kaya (Nationals only) At Norwegian Refugee Council

Background

Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been facing a multifaceted and complex crisis due to the increase in activities carried out by armed groups, intercommunity tensions, chronic food and nutritional insecurity, floods and violent winds. This security crisis affects all sectors of development, particularly the education system which is directly targeted by attacks, intimidation, killings and fires. This situation has forced a very large number of schools to close.

Between January 1 and October 31, 2023, more than 1,200,000 children were affected by the security context. Schools and educational personnel remain the target of these groups hostile to Western education. At this same period, approximately 5,723 schools still remained closed, affecting 888,837 students (including 48.12% girls) and 26,559 teachers (including 31.39% women).

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been implementing its education response since 2019. This response allows children affected by crisis and displacement to have access to inclusive, quality education in a safe and protective learning environment. .

NRC is seeking a talented, motivated and qualified Education Project Manager who will actively contribute to the development and implementation of the education program strategy in its operations in Burkina Faso.

What you will do:

  • Assess needs and contribute to the development of strategies for the NRC education response in Burkina Faso, in accordance with NRC program policy;
  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools and procedures;
  • Coordinate, manage and supervise the implementation of the education project in accordance with donor proposals, strategies and requirements;
  • Prepare proposals, budgets and donor reports relating to the education sector;
  • Monitor education projects and ensure high technical quality and synergies;
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Area Manager;
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries who most need protection and education support;
  • Develop and manage the project budget (in cooperation with the CC education specialist) and coordinate all CCs;
  • Ensure recruitment, management, training and development of project staff and liaison/collaboration with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders;
  • Contribute to the development of country, area and education strategies, launch and participate in the development of relevant education projects;

What you will bring:

  • Qualification requirement at BAC+4 level/or Inspector in the field of Education or any other related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a project manager in a humanitarian/recovery context, or similar
  • Solid experience in project cycle management and personnel management
  • Experience working in complex and unstable contexts
  • Documented results related to position responsibilities
  • Knowledge of own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken
  • Knowledge of English is an asset
  • Context-specific skills, knowledge and experiences:
  • Good knowledge of the education context in Burkina Faso
  • Technical expertise and proven experience in the context of education in emergencies
  • Experience in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in education interventions is an advantage,
  • Experience in alternative education and youth education programs is an advantage;
  • Experience in managing teams;
  • Good experience in developing proposals and budgets.
  • Demonstrable diplomacy and sense of planning and coordination
