Position Title: ELECTIONS EXPERT

Position Type: Part Time Consultancy engagement (a maximum of 9 weeks)

Mandatory:

Job Summary:

AVF is looking to implement a project on elections in Somalia aiming to advance nationwide participatory discussion and pro peace messaging through TV, radio and Forums to prevent and mitigate potential violence. AVF is recruiting an ELECTIONS EXPERT to support and work closely with our Somalia based partner (MediaInk) to provide input into discussions inform of expert knowledge on elections via radio and TV discussions. The Consultant will work closely with the AVF programme team to carry out the following duties:

  • Guide on elections messaging in Somalia including reviewing of proposed topics and angle of focus
  • Work with the team to provide best approaches to enhance peaceful dialogue
  • Respond to Radio Guests’ questions on key drivers and triggers of violence
  • Explain the role of community in reducing violence and what active and peaceful citizen participation mean for Somalia
  • Encourage participants to engage via SMS
  • Promote right practices; the dos and don’ts during elections
  • Other duties as requested by the project team

Key competencies

  • In depth knowledge on elections and citizen participation
  • Good understanding of violence triggers and mitigation strategies
  • Good command of English language (Written and spoken)
  • Good knowledge of of media in Somalia and ability to respond or hold conversations with journalists and citizens
  • Efficient in communication (Written and Spoken) with ability to use social media platforms for communication

Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum 10 years working on elections with vast knowledge of the subject in Somalia
  • Experience working with Non-governmental organizations with a focus on elections
  • Highly responsive and available to meet the demands of the work
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and planning skills.
  • Consultants will have their own laptops and mobile phones for communication and report writing.
  • Use of WhatsApp and other technology for sharing and receiving documents.**
