Event communications intern At Doctors Without Borders in Switzerland

Duration depending on the tripartite internship agreement: 6 to 12 months at 100%

This internship is part of an academic training program, a professional training program or a socio-professional integration program and must meet the conditions set by the Employment Market Surveillance Council ( CSME).

Context & Mission

Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, those affected by natural or man-made disasters and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and regardless of race , religion, beliefs or political affiliation (MSF Charter).

The “Public Engagement” unit is made up of 3 employees and 2 interns specialized in media relations and events. The team is part of the communications and fundraising department.

The internship offers a comprehensive overview of events work at MSF Switzerland. The trainee becomes familiar with the principle of “testimony”. In crisis zones where MSF intervenes, the organization considers itself a witness and our intervention teams always testify, which is an important element of our work. It is in this context that the intern organizes events to raise awareness among the Swiss public.

The intern actively participates in the selection, planning and execution of events throughout Switzerland. This person is in contact with different cultural and artistic partners, notably for the exhibition of photographs, comic strips, film festivals and movie screenings, in order to draw attention to conflicts and crises and the activities of MSF.

Main responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the selection, planning and execution of MSF events throughout Switzerland.
  • Help create communication materials for events (workshops, exhibitions, festivals, film screenings, mapathons, workshops).
  • Active participation in the development of MSF cultural partnerships.
  • Administrative tasks and coordination of interventions by MSF staff (both in the medical sector and in support activities) at the event sites.
  • Administrative coordination of guided tours for visitors to MSF Switzerland headquarters.

Required profile

  • Currently studying or finishing a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training in the field of events, cultural management, communication or social sciences.
  • Be eligible for an internship agreement with a third party
  • A first professional experience in the field of events is an asset
  • Organizational talent, targeted and efficient working method
  • Very good knowledge of German.
  • Good knowledge of French and English.
  • Excellent ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate commitment and support for diversity, inclusive and non-discriminatory behaviors and attitudes.
  • Marked interest in humanitarian themes.
  • Proactive and dynamic personality, with a strong taste for teamwork.
  • Adaptability and ability to effectively manage changing priorities and tight deadlines.

Working conditions

  • Mandatory tripartite internship agreement
  • Internship 6 to 12 months at 100% (depending on the internship agreement)
  • Based in Geneva or Zurich
  • Date of entry into office: 08/12/2024
  • Gross monthly salary: CHF 2,000.-
