Expert Emergencies – Communication (Part-time) At Welthungerhilfe

The position is a 50% part time position to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of three years. Employment location will be Bonn or Berlin, Germany.

During an emergency that involves a large volume of donations and media interest, Welthungerhilfe must be present in the affected country and area at very short notice. This includes professional communication to ensure that our colleagues receive sufficient material in good time for the various needs of the marketing and communications departments in an emergency situation.

As Expert Emergencies – Communication, you will be part of both the Communications Team and the cross-departmental Emergency Crisis Group (ECG). The purpose of the ECG is to strengthen Welthungerhilfe’s capacities in emergency situations and to ensure that Welthungerhilfe’s emergency aid measures run smoothly. In addition, an essential part of the task is the successful implementation of recommendations derived from previous emergency aid measures,

You will primarily be deployed in crisis situations, although there may also be quiet phases between missions. During an emergency response, you will work closely with the Emergency Crisis Group and the Emergency Operations and Crisis Support Coordinator.

Your responsibilities

  • Developing communication content around WHH’s response in a crisis to promote the specific needs of the population most affected by the crisis
  • Creating and editing images and short videos for various purposes on homepage and social media, in publications ,or via media statements
  • Creating short texts for marketing and communication purposes about the project work and the humanitarian situation in the project regions
  • Preparing interview content and briefings for WHH representatives at head office or in the country office prior to interviews
  • Giving interviews as required in coordination with the Communications department
  • Research for thematic inquiries after the respective crisis on the impact of the crisis on global issues
  • Cooperation with colleagues from Alliance2015 partner organizations and exchange of information and communication materials
  • Working closely with the Communication Officers in the Country Offices to create the required content
  • Coordinate and ensure visibility and reporting requirements from private donors, foundations and corporations
  • Supporting the preparation of project proposals and reporting to private and institutional donors by providing photos, videos, quotes or other material needed for the reports
  • Follow-up and implementation of measures to continuously improve communication processes in emergency situations
  • If necessary, deployment in crisis countries for up to 4 weeks and departure within 48 hours

Your profile

  • A university/bachelor degree or completed training in marketing, journalism, politics or related disciplines
  • At least 3 years of experience in marketing and/or communications in the context of humanitarian disasters
  • Proven ability to write, edit and refine articles and statements in different cultural contexts
  • Proficiency in the effective use of social media platforms
  • Strong ability to work independently in a decentralized team
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience with the ability to adapt to changing team structures and conditions
  • Willingness to be vaccinated for work in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries
  • Excellent written and spoken German and English. Knowledge of French is an advantage
