FIELD LANGUAGE ASSISTANT At UN Interim Security Force for Abyei

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

This position is located in Community Liaison Office of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), duty station Abyei. The Field Language Assistant reports to the Chief CLO or their designate and may be required to travel within the Abyei Administrative Area in the discharge of his/her duties.

Duties and Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Field Language Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

Provides clear and concise verbal communication/interpretation, interfacing between the mission’s representatives and local population in support of operations and wider mission activities.

– Assists with the translation of documents and communications from Arabic into English and vice-versa covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations.

– Briefs the Chief CLO and designate on happenings within the community

– Liaises with counterparts in other sections relating to scheduling and administrative arrangements.

– Keeps abreast of media news and briefs supervisors and colleagues of relevant contents. – Drafts routine correspondence for the Supervisor.

– Assists the Community Liaison Office with the preparation of drafts, briefing notes and background information.

– Files and retrieves office documents

– Performs other duties as may be required.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Specialized security training/courses are desirable.

Experience:

• A minimum of three (03) years relevant experience in Security or related areas such as Police and Military experience is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (01) year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Language:

• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required
