The position is part of the team that provides logistical services to the organization, strengthening local operational support, with reference both to the contingent needs of migrant minor protection and emergency response programs, and to the operational needs linked to the local implementation of programmatic activities, and finally the management of the life cycle of the project sites. By its nature, the assignment requires frequent travel across the national territory.
MAIN ACTIVITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Field Logistics Expert may be responsible for supporting emergency humanitarian programs and/or support for migrant minors in border areas for medium-long periods. During these assignments, he will be responsible for supporting all actions and activities relating to the Supply Chain and field logistics, including:
- small on-site purchases, support in drafting procurement plans for centralized purchases, on-site fleet management, warehouse/stock management, assets and facilities management, including identification of new facilities (guest-house, warehouse) . It will also provide logistical support for project activities, for example distribution and set-up of new child friendly spaces.
- In phases not expressly dedicated to supporting emergency and/or border humanitarian programs, the Field Logistics Expert will take care of:
- Provide local logistical support to Save the Children staff, including support during main field visits or for the implementation of local events.
- Provide logistical support to suppliers who carry out maintenance work or create installations in the offices, also carrying out quality checks during the execution of the works.
- Research and set up warehouses for the storage of materials used for project activities, monitoring the receipt in the field and storage of all ordered items, ensuring that the materials are stored appropriately and that the procedures are respected, even in the case of Gifts in Kind.
- Research and set up any guest houses, supporting the related administrative obligations
- In case of damage to the stock or to Save the Children’s facilities (project locations, child friendly spaces, offices, guest houses), provide logistical support in repairing compromised material.
- Provide logistical support in identifying external companies capable of guaranteeing a regular cleaning service in Save the Children facilities, including green areas and interventions on sewers or drains.
- In coordination with Save the Children’s Supply Chain/Fleet management area, facilitate car rental and return procedures and manage the fleet on site.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: preferably degree or similar qualifications linked to the areas of international cooperation.
- Previous experience of at least 2/3 years in a similar role/assignment, specifically in carrying out NGO field operations, including at an international level.
- Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian emergency operations.
- Management and administration skills.
- Excellent knowledge of the Office package.
- Excellent written and spoken knowledge of Italian and English.
