Field Manager-Aden/Lahj At Save the Children

The Opportunity

The Field Manager (FM) for Aden/Lahj is a high-level complex role. Aden/Lahj has a significant portfolio (12 million +) spread across the two governorates. Additionally two large education projects operate from Aden in Al Dahle and Abyan governorates. The security context in these areas can be volatile and the team is large. The FM role of Aden/Lahj is a complex one, focusing on both internal and external leadership. Internally the role has responsibility for oversight, strategic development and overall management of all Save the Children International (SCI) programmes within Aden and Lahj. Managing a team of approx. 150 staff including 10 direct reports. The role also works closely with Project Directors of large projects and with the Country Office, working cross functionally as well as with their direct line manager – Deputy Director of Program Operations – to ensure strategic support, advocating for Aden/Lahj needs and direction and escalating when appropriate. The FM will be able to both hold others to account for delivery of their job roles, but also themselves be accountable for their key deliverables and deadlines. In fulfilling his/her responsibilities, including budget holding, s/he will work with other senior managers to ensure programs are carried out in line with SCI’s country and global priorities.

Externally, this role is expected to be a strong representative for SCI within the Aden based coordination mechanisms, including INGO forums for the South (largely attended by Heads of Offices and CDs) and security forums.

SCI is a ‘dual mandate’ organisation and as such equal priority will be given to both humanitarian and development work. SCI strives to ensure the fundamental rights of children, such as survival, safety, constant access to protection and education can be guaranteed. As part of a commitment to working with children through humanitarian interventions SCI support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the FM will be expected to work outside the normal role profile to reflect the elevated inputs required in responding to an emergency and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
