JOB SUMMARY
Islamic Relief Worldwide, Somalia Programme has been operating in Somalia since 2006 and has responded to conflict and drought-affected people through the provision of life-saving assistance. Through our projects, IR has continuously been providing safe drinking water, improving hygienic sanitation facilities, increasing hygiene awareness, particularly among those living in IDP camps; empowering the urban poor and distressed working children, engaging in conflict management and mitigation, and strengthening community cohesiveness and co-existence.
Under the supervision of the Project Officer or Project Assistant, the Field Monitoris responsible for the implementation of field activities, leading field workers, and direct communication with communities served by the program. This will include identifying target households, meeting with community leaders and representatives, conducting registration of households for assistance, conducting technical assessments, monitoring the day-to-day work of the project activities, and liaising with households and community members throughout implementation.
The Field Monitor will be responsible for preparing daily activity reports on the progress of work, participating in team meetings and food security and livelihood staff events to analyze issues and improve quality.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the identification of households and communities impacted by floods and droughts
- Build strong relationships with community leaders and community members in each target area.
- Liaise directly with community members and community representatives to continuously monitor and track needs and concerns.
- Communicate clearly to project beneficiaries about the objectives, scope, and scale of the project activities in target areas.
- Support on monitoring of selection and registration of beneficiaries from the target areas of the project.
- Field-level supervision of beneficiaries’ registration in EBMs and distribution of EBMs cards.
- Registration of Beneficiaries in EBMs system and ensure data validation.
- Develop a weekly plan for the registration activities and execute them.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to be accountable to beneficiaries as it is a key Islamic Relief worldwide commitment to beneficiaries.
- Assist in the management and maintenance of EBMs registration equipment including cards, Tablet
- Validate beneficiary’s data in EBMs i.e. updating of records for those already registered to ensure their household information is up to date.
- Sensitize beneficiaries on the cash value entitlement to be received on monthly basis, duration and how/where, the cash assistance will be received.
- Identify needs for non-food items relevant to hygiene; participate in the choice of items, targeting strategy, promotion of effective use, and post-distribution monitoring.
- Responsible for collecting success stories from communities for sharing at sector as well as project level.
- Maintains a protection safe work environment and report concerns of suspected exploitation or abuse in accordance with the reporting procedures.
- Make sure the proper use of EBMs cards and demonstrate to the communities’ ways of benefiting from the card.
- Act as a link between the community and the IRW by providing empowerment to the community members, encouraging them to participate on community meetings.
- Work cooperatively with the beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen the project.
- Collaborate with other agencies’ staff in the field during inter agency meetings and field discussions.
- Raise the awareness on issues relevant to the community and encourage their participation in projects.
- Ensure mainstreaming of all cross-cutting issues in implementation of activities.
- Carry out informal and formal training sessions (according to identified needs) and evaluate the impacts of this training.
- Perform any other task as assigned by IRW management.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
- Attend food security and livelihood-related training workshops.
- Willingness to conduct monitoring of FSL, WASH, and Education project activities in the target areas.
SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS
- Skills related to FSL, WASH, and Education.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and creatively.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree, with relevant experience preferably in Agriculture, Agricultural-economy, economy, social science, development studies, Public Health or another relevant discipline.
- Proven experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in FSL, WASH, and Education and development contexts.
- Good knowledge of the English language
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to the field.
