Finance and HR Intern at Translators without Borders

Contract length: 6 months with the possibility of a 6 month extension

The Role

This is an exciting internship for the right person who has skills and interest in the full range of administrative management. It’s perfect for someone who wants a bit of experience before deciding on a career path. The Finance and HR intern will support the Finance and HR teams to administer payments and receipts; will work closely with the HR team to ensure efficient and professional human resources operations as well as carrying out other tasks related to donors, sponsors and supporters. The role will involve using a range of online tools including our payment and accounting (currently Quickbooks online) systems, CRM (customer relationship management) database and HR management system (BambooHR).

Responsibilities

Finance/General Accounting/Bookkeeping

Processing of payments, receipts including the reconciliation to the CRM system, reconciliation of bank accounts and balance sheet items. The processing of payments includes purchase orders, supplier invoices, expense claims, credit card returns, involves preparing batch payment uploads and using TWBs online systems, Expensify, Zahara and Quickbooks.

Ensure compliance with procurement, expenditure and financial policies and procedures.

Checking approved expense and credit card claims to receipts and other supporting documentation, checking that they have been fully allocated and following up queries, uploading expenses to the bookkeeping drive and linking them to the payments schedule.

Preparation of journal entries to ensure accurate accruals-based management and financial reporting on a monthly basis.

HR

Maintain and support human resources processes and procedures, such as recruitment, contract preparation and renewals, leave and separation.

Investigate into team members’ questions on HR policies, making sure they are understood and compliance is upheld.

Ensure human resources processes are documented, current and filed appropriately. Able to prepare reports when needed and maintain data in BambooHR.

Actively participate in building a culture that will ensure the organisation is positive, proactive and well placed to respond to a changing environment.

Other responsibilities

Assist in resolving financial and HR related queries from staff and other stakeholders.

Requirements

The right person will be an energetic team player who agrees with TWB´s core beliefs and values and who can work remotely, while interacting regularly with the team.

  • Reliable and flexible self-starter with the ability to work independently;
  • Strong organizational and admin skills;
  • Team player, collaborative, adaptable and self-motivated;
  • Good Excel/google spreadsheet skills;
  • Interested in acquiring finance, accounting and HR experience;
  • Able to adapt to new technologies and learn new skills quickly;
  • Great communication skills;
  • Thorough and attention to detail

Qualifications

  • Qualification in a field related to Finance or HR (or demonstrated interest) including or working towards such a qualification
  • Good command of English, both oral and written. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage;
  • Familiarity with technology (with a special focus on data entry tools and cloud computing platforms) and willingness to learn and explore

TWB has seen a period of rapid growth and hence our finance and HR departments are changing and growing! We are looking for an energetic finance & HR intern who can assist us with our finance and HR activities but can also develop new ideas and processes.

TWB is offering a six-month internship to work as part of these small and dynamic teams in the areas of finance and HR. The candidate will gain valuable experience in a thriving international non-profit organization, learning about everything from the not-for-profit humanitarian and development sector, to providing accurate and up to date financial and HR information which will enable management decision-making.
