About the Role

ARK’s Finance department is crucial in ensuring compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This enables ARK to maintain financial sustainability, accountability, and transparency, effectively fulfilling its mission and delivering impactful programs and projects.

As our project in Haiti expands, we’re seeking a Finance Officer is to assist the Finance Manager in tracking and maintaining the company’s accounting records. As Finance Officer you’ll ensure accuracy in data entry and financial transactions, maintain, and reconcile financial records, and support the Finance Manager with the preparation of financial reports and documentation.

What you’ll be doing

  • Verify and authenticate source documents such as invoices and receipts in accordance with approval mechanisms and financial procedures.
  • Monitor budget expenditures and track them using the budget vs. actual mechanism. Maintain project folders, organise, and participate in weekly budget meetings.
  • Record assigned financial transactions in regional accounting software (Acumatica/Microsoft Dynamics), including AP, AR, GL, cash, and bank transactions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and ensure they are easily accessible for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Provide guidance to new finance staff members on accounting procedures, practices, policies, and compliance issues.
  • Perform regular cash, bank, and AP reconciliations.
  • Ensure exchange rates are correctly and accurately reflected in accounting entries (multi-currency accounting).
  • Liaise with local accountants/auditors on all issues as required.
  • Execute relevant tax procedures.
  • Overseeing and disbursing petty cash payments, ensuring all transactions are accurately documented, recorded and adhere to ARK financial policies.
  • Addressing pending accounting and finance issues, including accruals, prepayments, deposits, insurances, and depreciations.

Requirements

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance
  • Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English and French.
  • 3+ years of practical accounting experience in an International Organisation/Company.
  • Proficient in IT, with expertise in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven expertise in utilizing accounting software.
  • Knowledgeable in IFRS Accounting Standards.
  • Experienced in multi-currency accounting.

Desirable

Experience overseeing accounting operations in a multi-currency environment.

  • Skilled in using Microsoft Dynamics Business Central accounting software.
  • Knowledge of financial rules and regulations for international donors such as HMG, USAID, Government of Canada.
