Finance Officer (Caracas)

The Danish Refugee Council is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in over 40 countries to provide appropriate assistance and protection to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, people on the move and vulnerable local population/host communities. DRC is currently seeking a highly qualified Finance Officer based in Caracas, Venezuela.

About the work:

DRC is managing its operations in Venezuela, led by the country office in Caracas and three field offices located in the states of Sucre, Apure and Zulia. DRC Venezuela is implementing activities such as protection monitoring, legal assistance, individual protection assistance for PWSN, briefings for PoC, prevention of human trafficking, rehabilitation of health infrastructure and food security.

Job Overview : The Finance Officer will be responsible for the accounting control of DRC’s operation in Venezuela and will be tasked with supporting financial operations to comply with internal, external and legal regulatory requirements, as well as streamlining the necessary administrative processes. He/she should be familiar with accounting activities, evaluation of administrative processes, external audit procedures, as well as budget monitoring and how accounting impacts ongoing projects.

Responsibilities:

Accounting and administrative management

  • Correctly use the functionalities of DRC’s ERP, Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Verify the accounting record in the ERP of all transactions carried out by the DRC Venezuela National Office.
  • Verify the tax returns corresponding to DRC Venezuela operations
  • Control of the national fiscal archive of DRC Venezuela
  • Analysis of accounting accounts and ensuring reconciliation of accounting accounts
  • Monitoring of procurement and logistics processes pending financial processing
  • Control of employee advance accounts
  • Ensure Venezuelan accounting compliance of the organization’s financial transactions
  • Act as auditor/verifier of the accounting and finance area processes in the database
  • Analysis of administrative processes and implementation of proposals for improvement and automation at the document and system level

Treasury

  • Management of banking portals and approval of banking operations.
  • Prepare and record payments to suppliers, employees and taxes corresponding to the operation of DRC Venezuela.

Financial Management

  • Monthly payment planning for the DRC Venezuela National Office.
  • Track financial performance indicators
  • Monitor contracts on a monthly basis and ensure all contracts are renewed, closed or paid on time.

Audit management

  • Support the organization in all types of audits and requests for information from donors/HQ.
  • Respond to audit requirements.

Information

  • Preparation of reports for accounting closings and reports to third parties from the corporate ERP.

Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
  • 1 year in an international NGO in a similar role (desirable)
  • High skills in computer use
  • Experience working with ERP
  • Experience in performing administrative tasks.
  • Good communication skills
  • High level of detail
  • Motivation to work in the humanitarian sector
  • Advanced mastery in Excel and Word
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills to meet deadlines
  • Expert handling of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics.

Education:

University degree in Finance / Business Administration / Accounting or equivalent experience
