Food Security, Livelihoods & Nutrition Field Supervisor At Acción contra el Hambre España

Under the supervision of the Deputy Program Manager, the FSL and Nutrition Supervisor will be responsible for the planning, monitoring and following up on the nutrition activities in Bekaa area. The supervisor will be working closely with the Community Nutrition Officers and IYCF specialists to maintain proper implementation of the project’s activities, while ensuring the coordination and collaboration with municipalities, other organizations, and other authorities.

Objective 1: Ensure timely and quality implementation of Nutrition project (40%)

  • Elaborate the monthly planning of the activities depending on the needs of the project and contextual conditions
  • Elaborate the weekly planning of her/his team
  • Ensure that the nutrition program consumable commodities and resources are well managed
  • Assist in a timely manner, in the procurement and supply of essential commodities and needs for the nutrition activities (orders, transportation, storage…) as per Action Against Hunger procedures and according to the base timetable.
  • Ensure that all means of verification are properly collected
  • Ensure proper distribution plan when required
  • Prepare the weekly transportation request and planning for her/his team
  • Participate in the definition of the activities and tools, based on field assessments and observations
  • Ensure the proper liaise with community nutrition officer and IYCF specialist for better coordination between the teams
  • Development of IEC material as needed through close coordination with entire team

Objective 2: Team Management (30%)

  • Organize the team meeting, ensure day to day team management (attendance, leaves, work planning, supervision, coaching…) and identify possible training needs.
  • Participate in the yearly appraisals according to Action Against Hunger procedures and guidelines and will define professional objectives
  • Follow-up and evaluate staff performance on regular basis
  • Provide regular coaching and feedback sessions, with adequate updates on progress against development plan and new objectives;
  • Guarantee the motivation of the team, in coordination with her/his line manager
  • Support team in capacity building as needed and closely assess further support/capacity building needs
  • Ensure the compliance of working conditions while in office or in the field with respect to Action Against Hunger code of conduct and standard operating procedures for the area of operations;

Objective 3: Quality monitoring of the activities, needs analysis and adapting approaches, accountability (10%)

  • Ensure that the activities and approaches are consistent and relevant to reach programme objectives, and report to the line manager any deviation
  • Ensure to maintain a beneficiary database with the line manager
  • Identify deviations and needs not covered and proposed adaptations to programme activities
  • Ensure proper quality monitoring of the interventions, including collaboration with MEAL Department
  • Update the nutrition staff about all activities and changes to make sure all are working on the same line and the activities are well understood.
  • Identify the good practices and the ones that need improvement among the Syrian and local community and adapt the program tools accordingly

Objective 4: Reporting and archiving (10%)

  • Submit weekly and monthly reports.
  • Participate to external reports when needed
  • Ensure proper, accurate and timely archiving of all the means of verification of the project and other technical project documentation (soft and hard copies)
  • Ensure proper documentation of challenges, lessons learned and best practices

Objective 5: Coordination and referral monitoring (10%)

  • Participate in external coordination (when needed) at the base level (including Health and Nutrition Sub working Group in Bekaa and other working group meetings as requested).
  • Assist in the maintenance of regular liaison, collaboration and coordination with other actors at the field level.
  • Support in the maintenance and functioning of a proper coordination and referral system with MoPH and organizations/entities working in the area (referral mechanism…)
  • Liaise with local authorities and local health system in order to ensure the ongoing and eventual development of the activities.
  • Ensure proper communication of the hotline and feedback mechanisms

Objective 6: Security

  • Respect the security rules specified in the mission and base security plan, see to it that the team under his/her responsibility complies with the security plan and perform the security management tasks that can be assigned in its protocols.
  • Communicate to the security managers of the working location any security related information or noncompliance with the security plan

Objective 7: Support humanitarian activities of Action Against Hunger

  • Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Support any activity that helps reaching our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Promote the gender equality within the humanitarian work

Training:

BSc in Nutrition, public health or related field. Masters is a plus.

Technical specific knowledge:

  • Knowledge about IYCF, child growth, acute and chronic malnutrition, micronutrients deficiencies, and nutrition during the life cycle.
  • Additional knowledge and abilities about the alignment of nutrition with maternal and child health, and food security and livelihoods programs

Previous experience:

  • 2 years and more in nutrition interventions including nutrition sensitive interventions (FSL, WASH…).
  • Experience in humanitarian and development organizations is needed.
  • Experience with mother-child health/nutrition is desirable.

Basic knowledge mandatory

Languages:

  • Native Arabic (compulsory)
  • Very good English (compulsory)

IT and specific systems:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office suite
  • Good knowledge of Kobo Collect/ODK
