SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association that, for over 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their vital needs: drinking, eating, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the world’s leading cause of death, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and the promotion of hygiene, but also in the essential field of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI’s teams – 3,200 people in total, made up of expatriates, national employees, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
Job Description
Main missions of the internship:
- Assist the Accountability and Donor Development Officer, the Desk Program Officer and the Geographic Manager, responsible for the missions in Burkina Faso, Togo-Benin, Mali and Niger, in carrying out the administrative tasks necessary for the management of missions and programs, and in the operational monitoring of programs implemented in the field.
- Provide support to mission teams as a whole.
Main objectives of the internship:
- Discover the headquarters of an NGO and understand the relationship between the headquarters and the field;
- Discover the different programs and areas of expertise of Solidarités International;
- Discover the humanitarian and geopolitical context of the areas concerned;
- Discover the different professions in the field;
- Understand how a mission works and its constraints;
- Understanding the relationships between different humanitarian actors;
- Know the specific expectations of donors;
- Put into practice project monitoring and financing cycle management;
- Being in direct contact with staff in the field;
- Discover the strategy of an NGO.
Main tasks:
- Update monthly tools (program sheets, operational maps, etc.);
- Under the supervision of the Program Manager and CRDB, ensure the monitoring of missions and field requests;
- Participate in the review of project proposals and reports intended for donors, and exercise a critical eye;
- Participate in the review of lessor contracts and partnership agreements;
- Ensure compliance with reporting deadlines imposed by donors via the reverse planning of reports linked to current projects;
- Manage paper and electronic archiving (jointly with the Desk support assistant) of documents relating to missions;
- Participate in the various briefings and debriefings, in conjunction with RP and CRDB, of expatriates leaving on missions;
- Contribute to the briefing of expatriates;
- Participate in weekly and monthly Desk meetings;
- In collaboration with other assistants, tidy up and reorganize the network;
- Maintain contact with missions in the absence of those responsible;
- Provide translation of various documents (English → French / French → English);
- Contribute to certain programmatic or technical projects.
Depending on the period of your internship and your interests, you may be more focused on some of the tasks mentioned above or even develop others.
IF YOU WILL OFFER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS
- Internship based at the SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL headquarters in Clichy (92), Mairie de Clichy metro station
- Intern with mandatory internship agreement.
- Compensation: 4.90 euros/hour
- The gratuity is calculated in proportion to the actual hours of presence during the month. (On average 1 month = 154 hours, or 22 days of 7 hours/day)
- Public transport covered 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
- Meal vouchers at €8.90/day of actual training, with 60% participation from SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
- Between 4 and 12 days of teleworking authorized per month
- Higher education (bac +5 level) preferably focused on project management and/or humanitarian work, political science or international relations, knowledge of water issues, food security or rehabilitation is appreciated;
- Real interest and motivation for voluntary and humanitarian work – willingness to go into the field in the short term;
- International work experience appreciated;
- Writing, summarizing and spelling skills;
- Critical and analytical mind, autonomy, rigor, responsiveness, organization, efficiency, significant work capacity and ability to work under pressure;
- Computers: Office Pack (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email (Outlook)
- French, fluent English
