The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has an exciting opportunity for a Full Stack Developer. Joining the growing digital function within SBTi’s global operations team, you will collaborate closely with other teams to ensure that the SBTi technology infrastructure is well supported and service excellence is at the core of the organization.

You thrive in a collaborative environment where ideas, as well as values, are well communicated and shared respectively. English is the working language at SBTi and the ability to communicate at a business fluent level is needed.

About the Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses and financial institutions to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves organizations’ targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the SBTi website, working with key subject matter experts and content leads to implement regular updates to ensure content accuracy, relevance and transparency;
  • Lead the continuous improvement of the website and digital platforms, including content and performance, in line with user needs and developing business priorities;
  • Manage relationships with digital agencies to ensure maintenance of software and infrastructure, security, and optimal performance of the website and digital platforms;
  • Develop a comprehensive migration strategy to move key elements of the current web page to a new web environment that is maintainable and fit for purpose;
  • In collaboration with IT security, design a robust and secure web experience protecting critical back end data;
  • In collaboration with data engineer, configure API calls between web back end and data applications to ensure the right information is passed to the web and prioritizes automation;
  • Contributes to the development of technical architecture of SBTi data pipeline and display of public climate data;

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience with modern web architecture / CMS systems (eg. Craft CMS);
  • Can build web sites / applications using HTML, CSS, Python, java script, PHP or equivalent;
  • Front end and back end experience with tools like React and JSON to handle tokens, cookies, etc. to facilitate security;
  • Knowledge of maintenance, scaling, migrating and deploying code on different platforms like cloud, AWS, Heroku, Netlify etc.;
  • Ability to work remotely and flexibly in a global environment with limited direct supervision;
  • Familiarity with agile values and how to leverage agile to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure, experience using Asana a plus;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and advanced English level for non native speakers;
