Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Training At HIAS

HIAS is seeking a qualified GBV consultant to provide direct GBV technical support to the upstart of a new multi-sectoral program in Honduras that includes GBV, MHPSS and economic inclusion. The program is supported by HIAS and implemented by HIAS’ partner in Honduras, FUNADEH. The consultant will provide training and onsite support to FUNADEH GBV/MHPSS staff to strengthen capacity in core GBV programming areas such as GBV case management, establishing referral pathways, risk mitigation and community engagement. The consultant will work closely with HIAS and FUNADEH staff to understand existing referral pathways or begin to develop clear GBV referral pathways where they do not exist, and to develop SOPs for responding to GBV survivors. They will review the GBV activities and approach and ensure that the strategies for community outreach and engaging with women and girls are clear and survivor-centered, in line with international standards, and relevant to the context. The consultant will coordinate closely with the Technical Director for Gender and GBV, the HIAS MHPSS/GBV Coordinator in Honduras, and FUNADEH PSS/GBV colleagues.

Key deliverables:

  1. Train HIAS and FUNADEH GBV/MHPSS staff on GBV case management and other core concepts as needed (delivery of training and training materials).
  2. Provide brief training to all HIAS and FUNADEH staff on GBV guiding principles and core concepts. (delivery of training and training materials).
  3. Co-develop draft of standard operating procedures- in collaboration with MHPSS consultant and HIAS and FUNADEH staff – for responding to GBV survivors in the areas where HIAS and FUNADEH work. Draft includes supervision process to support caseworkers and ensure quality GBV case management.
  4. Understand existing referral pathways; support development of referral pathways where they don’t exist.
  5. Review and write up of strategy for community outreach and engaging with women and girls.

All trainings and resources use a survivor-centered approach, in line with international standards, and are designed to be practical and adapted for communities in Honduras.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience implementing GBV programs in humanitarian settings, including GBV service delivery (GBV case management, referral pathways, SOPs, etc.);
  • Strong understanding of international guidelines for GBV programming in humanitarian settings, using a survivor-centered approach.
  • Commitment to GBV guiding principles and a feminist approach to programming.
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age sensitivity and adaptability;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills;
  • Fluent in Spanish (written and oral); proficiency in English an asset
