Gender coordinator (F/M) – Lebanon At Médecins du Monde

For more than 40 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies.

Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 30 countries across all continents where it focuses on 5 priority areas: emergency and crisis, sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction, migrants and displaced populations (health rights), health and environment.

In Lebanon, MdM has been implementing different programs aiming at strengthening the public health system, while focusing on mental health and psychosocial support. MdM is working in the integration of mental health in the primary healthcare system and contributing to the development of community-based mental healthcare services, opening and running community mental health centers. Activities are based in Beirut, Bekaa Valley and Tripoli.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the deputy general coordinator and in collaboration with the gender advisor based at HQ, you manage and plan the implementation of gender activities in the programme, guiding and assisting the partners and programme teams to mainstream gender across activities and develop gender transformative and intersectional actions.

Your main responsibilities are the following:

Strategy and program development

  • Participate in the development of the general strategy and develop a gender strategy for the MdM programs as well as for the support team
  • Participate in fundraising and representation (including meetings with donors when needed)
  • Acquire information and understanding of key gender health issues in Lebanon and remain alert on policy and key players to adapt strategy accordingly
  • Assess the feasibility of developing gender advocacy activities in Lebanon on key topics of MdM

ReCEVAL project

  • Lead the drafting of a proposal for a follow-up phase
  • Lead the implementation of the AFD consultancy gender strategy
  • Develop and support the implementation of the gender action plan for the project partners
  • Provide technical support to focal points appointed in each community mental health and substance use centers as well as in partners’ organisations
  • Represent MdM on gender issue forums and advocacy opportunities

Capacity building and coaching

  • Build capacity of staff, volunteers and partners on gender and on GBV core concepts, screening and safe referrals
  • Povide technical support to the team, including preparing gender training manuals
  • Initiate and maintain linkages with existing and new partners on gender-related activities
  • Support MEAL in integrating gender lens in logframe and other MEAL activities, as well as supporting program in integrating gender in their practices
  • Provide technical support to revise and develop contextualized Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials
  • Reinforce GBV screening from MdM and partners

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Status : Salarié
  • Contract : Contrat à durée déterminée
  • Duration : 12 months
  • Starting date: January 2023
  • Gross monthly salary: 2 940 euros
  • Premium equal to one month salary paid in two instalments – minimum of 6 months seniority required
  • Expatriation bonus (10% gross salary per month)
  • Transportation cost, vaccines and visas covered

  • 22.5 RTT (recovery days) per year
  • 5 weeks of paid leaves per year
  • Health insurance (60% covered by MdM and 40% by the employee)
  • Insurance (repatriation…)
  • Teleworking agreement for positions eligible to telework: 110 days/year (2.5 days teleworking on average per week) with a minimum of 1 day per week onsite

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, humanities, political science or humanitarian and development studies
  • Master’s degree in gender studies and/or public health
  • 5 years of relevant gender-related experience
  • Similar experience with humanitarian organizations
  • Experience with public health organizations is preferred
  • Good understanding of community-based development and participatory approaches
  • Gender advocacy experience is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of work in the Middle-East is an asset
  • Languages: English (written and spoken) is mandatory
